Sculpture in the Wild ---- Montana (Part 2)
Jun 1, 2018 10:46:29   #
MT native Loc: Big Sky Country — Montana

Located in Lincoln, MT (northwest of Helena), the "international sculpture park celebrates the rich cultural, environmental and industrial heritage of the Blackfoot Valley."

Images #1 & 2. Bat Beacons. Created by a Montana artist "My project is to develop a piece of art that will encourage the preservation of bat habitats in Montana. The installation, measuring a total of 20' x 40' x 40', can reside in many regions of the park that has an open area. Sixteen 20' poles will be positioned in a 4 x 4 grid with 10' between each one. Installed on top of each pole will sit a bat box constructed from rough cut lumber. This piece of art will function as a roosting site for bats and as an education tool, questioning ways that we view art and ecology."

Images #3 & 4. House of Sky. Created by an artist from Ireland. "The work I developed for the landscape of Lincoln, Montana, takes its title from the memoir of a Montana childhood by the American writer Ivan Doig. In the course of that wonderful memoir Doig describes the blue expanse over Montana range land as forming the walls and roof of all of life’s experience ….. a single great house of sky. I wanted my work to engage with the sky of Montana as much as with the landscape.
