There goes Jerry.....always putting up his messages to other UHH'ers! Jerry, do you have a compact or bridge to recommend? :-D

If I wanted a pocket-sized camera, I'd get a Sony or Canon, although I don't think you could buy a bad brand name camera. Sony is including GPS and panorama in most of its cameras now. Canon has always made good small cameras. I recently got a Sony WX9. It's very small and takes nice pictures. On continuous, it sounds like a machine gun at 10fps.

I had a couple of Fuji bridge - the S7000 and S9000, both very nice cameras with huge zoom range.

It's all a matter of looks and feel and maybe one particular feature that one brand has and the other doesn't. If I could afford it, I'd buy a new camera every day. :D

In our Osceola County Camera Club (OC3) there is a member who shoots Nikon Coolpix P510. He has the most focus clear photos and videos. The camera has a 42mm zoom lens.
I am a Canon T3i user but if I had seen this little wonder before I would have purchased instead. It is an awesome camera.
Yesterday I saw review on YouTube about the Canon S95 which seems very interesting.

But the Canon S100 is superior.

Hope this helps.

km2000,
I think you're the first on this post to recommend a Pentax. Thanks!

Jerry,
I'm like you....if I could afford it, I'd buy a camera every day. I've heard good things about all the ones you mentioned. Thanks!

If you can wait, the Panasonic FZ200 will be coming out this month or September. I am not as advanced as many on UHH, but was given advice
To pre-order and I did. Just a suggestion. It sells for $599, but after it hits the markets that price is not locked. On You Tube one reviewer stated getting it for less than $1200 will be a bargin. Like you I took the advice of
a few on this site.

Greggie,
I've had more than a few advising me to hold off on buying anything until the Panasonic gets released. Thanks!

It is no longer available in the UK, unless secondhand. I don't know about the USA, but I suspect not.

That's excellent advice because the next model will be better than the current one. However, you might want to hold off until the model after that is introduced. :D

The problem is, we are living now, and new cameras will be coming out in the future. We want cameras now. Buy what you want now, and when a new camera comes out, either sell the current model or keep it as a backup.

I worked with a guy in the 1970's who would not buy a color TV because he got only one channel. Doesn't make sense, does it?

Thanks, tramsey, for the heads up on UHH info. I've read other's posts here on UHH with the claim that the P510 can get REALLY great, sharp photos even at the long end of 1000mm. Have you had that experience?

It really is a sharp len's.

I am glad it was of help. I believe in sharing knowledge even more when I have learned through others willingness to share their time, expertise and know how. Happy Shooting!

Then get GIMP and do wonders in post production/editing.

I own the Nikon P510 and love it. My husband used it to help take pics at a wedding, and he took some incredible pictures (and he seldom uses a camera). My brother-in-law was so impressed with my photos from vacation that he went out and bought one also. Love the 42x zoom, takes clear pictures. I am learning how to use it better each day, and finding more things I can do with it. I would recommend this camera highly as a good bridge camera.

Canon G12 versus Nlkon P7100? Nikon having up to 200 Tele.
Ganon GX1, larger sensor, larger camera, short on the Wide Angle & Zoom.
Drawback on smaller cameras, is lag time between shots, some of the Sony's have 12 frames per second, but lack viewfinder, mostly point & shoot. If you do not mind caring a small look alike SLR, then consider the following:
Nikon P510 was voted better (not much) than the Canon SX40. Great Price.
I too, am looking for the perfect small camera. Closest I own now is the Sony DSC-HX9V. This does everything. Zoom from 24mm-384mm, HDR,
IN CAMERA PANORAMICS, 3-D, HD MOVIES, SCENES, VR.
I added a CARRY SPEED LCD VIEW FINDER LOOP, like HOODMAN Loop at half the price of $39.99 from AMAZON. This snaps to the back of the LCD Screen of the Sony, making it possible to view outdoors in bright sun. This model Sony has been upgraded with model 10, model 20, model 30. The latter has Wi-Fi.
Check them out, you'll love it. Good luck and let me know which you wind up with. BV
