Actually the reason it was even brought up here is that in the USA, we think freedom of speech is universal and we keep forgetting that the USA is unique in the world in that respect. Also, most people here do not realize the UK does not have a constitution and the attendant bill of rights; it's all a mishmash of laws and rules.

I think what shocked us the most about that incident is they sent 7 officers to arrest him, (not even tell him to move along or whatever,) drag him to court where he was tried, found guilty and sentenced to 13 months in jail, and then packed away to said jail inside of 5 hours. That's usually done in banana republics, Soviet block countries (the good old days,) and moslem countries. We never expected it from the UK, but then again, we never expected the UK government to turn a blind eye at rampant industrial-scale rape of young children by the moslems in your country and that needs to be covered up and ignored, obviously.

But then again: Jimmy Savile.

It's not so much that it's "left wing," it's actually quite biased towards the left. When they first started off, they were quite good but now they are useless because they hide their bias so you can't rely on their findings and pronouncement to be complete and dependable.

The reason he was descended upon with such force and not just told to move along, is that he had been ordered to stop several times before. He was running the risk of the trial being declared a miss-trial because of his actions. He was broadcasting live so the damage was being done as he was doing it, so he had to be stopped immediately. There would have been no point in giving him a trial date in a couple of months time. It may seem that we have a mishmash of laws and rules, that's because we've been around long enough, well over 250 years if you can imagine such a thing, to realise that one size rarely fits all, sometimes you need to look at individual cases. No-one is turning a blind eye here. This guy is being kept out of the way so that he can't destroy the case against these people.

Snopes may appear to be left-wing, but that's only because they disprove a lot of right-wing bullshit. And, at the moment, there is a lot of right-wing bullshit out there.
