Light, shadow, textures near a lake--work together?

I liked the little "drama" of moving through shadows and textures to a "reveal" of Lake Michigan. Could it be improved?

Maybe I'm all wet, but if this is the "show-me" section, it's pretty hard to edit an already heavily edited jpeg. The "show-me" process would be more productive, I think, if RAW files were posted. With this image, the noise reduction, sharpening, and heavy saturation are pretty hard to back out.

However, I think it can be made slightly more interesting by making more of a "tunnel."

Thanks for the suggestion. Actually, the original shot was much like yours edit, and I thought I's add some visual interest by being up shadow detail. :-) I hope others comment on our different approaches.

For the record, this forum is meant for anything, from raw photos needing major editing, to narrow ideas asking specific questions. Enjoy!

New here so not sure if this is what you want as feedback but its like a phone picture or plain old snapshot so what were u hoping to get out of it? No amount of pbotoshoping can make it into a good piece of work.

Interesting. Just what qualities must a good piece of work have that a phone or snap can't achieve?

I probably would crop approx. 10-15% off the bottom. Obviously you would lose some of the foreground shadow area by doing so, but I think the composition would significantly benefit from the crop, and there would still be enough shadow and texture remaining to retain that which you want to express.

it does look better that way--but it caused a lot of trouble. First, the Lake was now lower in the frame, rather than a somewhat distant goal. Simply lowering the top crop made for a clunky composition, so I "had" to crop some from both sides. Then, I thought the shadows could not only lead the eye around the photo, but into it, towards the Lake, o I dodged some. Now, the russet color of the bush was too dominating. Tried, for some stupid reason, to make it green. Totally lost the complementary color contrast with the Lake. Ended up just desaturating it.
So, see what you have done!

I see your point.

I think I would like the unedited image better although you didn't post one. I want more details. Your image lost almost all details.

I have to admit that I'm at a loss where the edits can go. That is because this scene has no real subject. You describe it as a "reveal", and I understand what you are getting at; but visually, I'm seeing a road, a wall and some water in the distance. My eye does not have a place to go here. If there were something on the water, then maybe we are getting somewhere; but, even then, the water would have to be bigger to attract my attention.
