NIELS-HENNING ORSTED PEDERSEN, a Danish born bassist, was among the greatest of jazz bassists. Sure there were others - but none greater than him. (my opinion)

Definitely near the top of the heap amongst double bass players. Heard him in the eighties with Joe Pass. Just the two of them played a small club in the Twin Cities. Amazing amount of virtuosity between the two of them!
