FWIW the plow on that engine and a sister engine are permanent. Winter in the San Juan mountains can last from Sept to May

That is actually a snow plow which is permanently mounted. The engine was built as a primarily fright engine but it was also used in passenger service. Now that is reversed it mostly used in passenger service and only used for freight service in a reenactment role.
