I just sent Gary Friedman a detailed explanation with many photos explaining how I take and make these photos. Some of you may know Gary as he travels the world teaching Photography and has many books on the subject of photography. I'm honored that he asked me to explain my technique so he can include it in his blog. I don't want to steal his thunder, so you will have to wait until September when he publishes his blog that will include my write-up. He has a much larger following and larger readership than I do. He may also polish my write-up with his considerable writing skills. When it's published I'll provide a link to it here.

Soon you will all be able to take photo like mine. Until then, please continue to visit my website below, as I continually add more hummingbird photos to it.

amazing! could i ask what shutter speed you were at? I shot this at 1/1250 and it was so dark I could barely see it. Ofcourse now it looks like crud because I had to lighten it up so much. Again, really nice pic!

1/250 th. I admire that you managed to focus on it as well as you did. What lens did you use?

Thank you. It was the Nikon 55-300. I've only had the feeder out for a week but man I get TONS of the little cuties. My apartment faces the woods so there isn't ever a ton of light. I don't have a macro currently but am thinking of trying my 50mm prime because I can darn near walk right up to them...they are almost tame. Thoughts?
