I after much resistance I let Microsoft update my computer. The result was that it unplugged LR from Adobe and I was unable to import photos. I have LM 6.14 and after 2hrs plus on the phone and letting Adobe take control of my computer three times by three different techs, the problem was solved. I love photography, but the computer aspect kills me. Also I'm deaf and have a hard time understanding accents, so you might understand my frustrations. LOL. So be careful with your updates, I can't tell you what happened because I couldn't understand the nice guy from India that was explaining it to me. Will say, Adobe was most patient and very helpful.

My Windows 10 update also caused some issues with Lightroom... mainly it was the graphic processor and the need to also update my GPU drivers. Then after updating the GPU, Adobe also had updates. Having stated all of this, everything was handled correctly by all of the software publishers... Microsoft released an update... 1 day later, GForce notified me of their update, and about the same time, my Adobe Cloud notified me of updates to most of their software. Everything now works fine again. Yes, I did have a few issues for about 2 hours (until I turned off GPU in the Lightroom preferences... and then after everything was "fixed" I turned it back on). On your computer, everything is a balance between the OS (Windows or Apple), any video processors and other hardware devices, and the software. I also had some issues with many of my other software programs, especially Civilization and other heavily graphics intensive programs.

I also had issues,( couldn’t import) but I hadn’t yet loaded the latest adobe updates. I was just about to uninstall and reinstall And then I tried the update. Everything worked after that.

Not to relish in somebody's headache but every time I read a thread like this I am so glad I left the Windows and Adobe world for the Apple ecosystem.

Yeah, you don't often read threads that say, "my update worked perfectly," we only tend to post opinions when something effects us negatively. I actually moved from Mac to PC, due to the cost of the equipment. After a slight learning curve with the differences, I'm very happy with PC, just like I was Apple. I also switched from Canon to Nikon (only reason was, I inherited a lot of Nikon digital stuff, and my Canon was all Analog) I'm happy with Nikon, but never had an issue with Canon.

I'm having my own LR problems, but I am guessing I changed a setting or something. I'm not going to bash a whole company, the industry leader, because I did something stupid.

I am a computer consultant and can unequivocally tell you that when Windows 10 updates, there is a problem lurking somewhere. This humongous, latest updates has broken some of Microsoft's own software, i.e., Remote Desktop. I'm keeping all of my personal machines on Windows 7 and just hope that MS releases some patches that corrects a bunch of their mistakes.

There are 400 million using Windows 10 and 9 million subscribing to Adobe's creative cloud. With numbers that big, and the complex nature of computers, it is logical that some will have trouble. They will gravitate to websites and help forums that can be full of doom and gloom if a few dozen are having issues. Usually, the issues get resolved quickly.

Saltwaterphil, the OP, is an example. He got it fixed in a couple hours and ended his post with "Will say, Adobe was most patient and very helpful."

FWIW, my ASUS laptop started with Windows 7. I let Microsoft upgrade it to 10 when it was free and allow automatic updates. I use Adobe CC software. I've had no significant update issues with any of it.

I am running Windows 10 on 5 different older and newer devices. I never had a single problem updating them and using them with existing hardware and software... ever!

Same here. The machine I am using has had 100% up time since I built it six years ago, save for the 2 times I opened it up to add memory, a better graphics card and more drive space. But I have read quite a bit about issues with MacOS upgrades causing headaches for Lightroom users, and other issues with drivers for external gpus.

This looks like a bit of a nightmare to me -

And you gotta love this one:

It just shows that there is no reason to gloat, or make light of someone else's misfortune - something apple fanboys seem to like to do. We are all computer users, machines are programmed by people and no one is perfect - not even Apple -

This is not going to be a rant about Mac vs Windows, but I will say that the money I've saved over the years by purchasing rock-solid, serviceable and easily upgradeable PC equipment has made it possible to buy at least 1 amazing lens - my 600mmF4 - or a half dozen similarly amazing lenses that equal the cost of the big one. I don't need to be trendy or fashionable, I just need a computer I can rely on. So far, I haven't been let down.

There's more than one way to accomplish that task. When our Windows computer died, my daughter took her boyfriend's retired gaming computer {case &motherboard} added keyboard, mouse, and display from our {old dead} computer, purchased a new hard-drive ... and we have the Linux computer I'm using to enter this. It turns out that running gimp doesn't required nearly as much "horsepower" as gaming does.

The variety of hardware that Windows is running on is just too much to guarantee compatibility with everything, every time. People are running Windows 10 on hardware that was delivered with XP, for example. Sometimes it works out. Sometimes it doesn't. When it does, great. When it doesn't, you find yourself buying a new machine.
