I am so sorry for your loss. I know exactly how you feel.

Thank You So Much. I knew it was coming though for her as she outlived her mother and the others that were born in her litter. Normal life span for her should've been 8 years but she lived to 14 so it was time. I didn't want to see her suffer any longer.

Photo Guy, so sorry for your loss. She looked quite the lady.

Thank You so much. She was quite the lady for a very long time. In her younger years she didn't act like it sometimes though. Once she stole and ate 3/4 of a pizza that I had on the stove that I had delivered that I had pushed back but she managed to get to it somehow and ate the whole thing. From that day on, I learned to keep food away from her that I ordered. She was a great dog though.

Let's see some of yours. Most of the pet photos here are impromptu shots. Therefore, they may not be the sharpest, well -composed or lit properly. But being a pet -owner, I appreciate the shots and overlook my and anyone else's less than perfect shots because the subject matter is locked up in our hearts.

Hi Saycheese,
I think you will find that the great majority of these images are not animals in motion running about, they are shots of our loved ones and have been posted for all of us to see..

An impromptu shot to me is something snapped as the critta is about to do something or is in the act of doing something.

The LAST THING I want any one to think is that I am being HYPER critical but this is a photography forum where folks should know the basics about getting the subject at least in focus.

When a fisherman wants a fish photographed they will hold it forward from their body to make the fish look bigger than it is..

If we want the dog's nose to look out of proportion, then take a head-on shot and the nose looks far to big and usually detracts from a picture.

In the UK we have a TV advert where a dog grabs some toilet paper and runs... In the advert the toilet paper does not break... I thought that a set up scene as surely the toilet paper would come apart?? Unbeknown to me our stupid mutt must have watched that advert as he will sneak into the toilet and if no one is looking , he grabs the toilet paper and goes walkabout..

A picture paints a thousand s words and hopefully the images are at least in focus although I did not literally catch the pooch in the act!

The old dog is now getting on and prefers laying down when being groomed :) As I have said NONE are perfect shots but at least they are in focus

Tell you what:C&C specific shots that have been posted here.Explain what is so objectionable. After you do that, please move on to critiquing photos of kids and grandkids. Go ahead.
You missed my point entirely. We were not asked to post perfectly posed, perfectly lit and perfectly composed POSED photos. We were asked to post pictures of our pets. And our pets are family members and we are proud to show them off, regardless of the photo quality. One thing I learner from age 3:Never criticize pictures of kids, grandkids and pets.Find something good to say, then move on.
I guess I shouldn't post a picture of my 11 year old dog wearing his diaper .He has congestive heart failure (diagnosed at age 4)and has no idea he is even remotely ill, and he thinks he is adorable. I do too, and that's what matters.

Like I keep on saying.. You are TOTALLY missing my point..

We are folk that are experienced at handling a camera....

If I bake a cake then I expect it to taste nice or I will throw it away..

When I ride a motorbike I expect to change gear smoothly..

For those of us that drive cars with a manual gear box I would not expect to crunch the gears..

I am NOT for one milli second suggesting these images should depict a mangy mutt in a perfect pose or for cats..... a purrfect pose.

all I am saying is that those that frequent a photography forum ought to be able to get a shot in focus.. NOTE the terminology 'In focus'

I am NOT saying pin sharp, I am simply saying in focus.

I most certainly have NOT contrary to what you suggest made a single critique of any image.. I am not qualified, I am an amateur 'snapper' but even though I lack the expertise of most folks, I would like to think I can take a picture of my pride and joy that is in focus??

Clearly this has struck a raw nerve (note raw) :-) and you are clearly happy with out of focus shots.. we will simply have to agree to disagree. You asked me to post pictures of our mangy mutt, I did so, they are not posed, they are not freshly taken to justify my stance, they were just a few images of the hundreds I have of our dopey dog, all of which I would like to think are ...... In focus. The ones that were out of focus went into the bin!

There are more and more images on this thread that highlight my point.. They show pets that are characters and the pictures are just right, ALL I AM trying to suggest is why post an out of focus image if we have some that are a better picture?

If the only pictures we have are out of focus....

Then get out the camera ..

Your "stupid mutt" must not be too stupid if he can mimic a TV ad. Stupid or not, he is beautiful. The head shot is terrific.

She was a Springer Spaniel, but she loved to swim and romp in water. I had a 25 foot leash to keep her out of trouble when she was in the water.
You can see the leash in the photo.

i see that now that you had pointed it out. We'd had only one dog that loved water, the English pointers wanted no part of it.

So sorry for your loss. I consider pets to be a part of the family and it's very difficult and sad to lose a pet.

This is our darling Charlie Nelson wanting to eat at the table with us.

I love it! My husband had a dog when I met him that used to sit at the table and eat breakfast with him on Sunday mornings. He also used to sleep in the bed with him. Not on the foot of the bed on top of the blanket, but under the blanket with his head on a pillow like a person. When we first got married this dog slept between us and tried to push me off the bed every night!

The first Thanksgiving I spent with the in-laws was an eye opener. The sister-in-law held her dog on her lap during dinner and would feed this dog bites of food off her fork and drinks of milk out of her glass.

Animals really are members of the family on my husbands side of the family.

Thanks Sue. Yes, they do become our family members except they except us the way we are! HA! Too funny about your husbands dog, great story.

Our boys will be 3 yrs old next month. They are half Shih-tzu and half Minature Schnauzer. We rescued them from the vets office where they were taken at 3 days of age. Their mother had a litter of 8 puppies and ate 4 of the puppies before the remaining four were taken away from her.

This is an eye opening thread..

Are we all striving to improve our photography skills and hopefully let other members see what we are capable of?

I would like to think we are all capable of taking a picture that is in focus and possibly not suffering from too much camera shake. Do we get blinded when we post pictures of our pets?

Can I respectfully suggest I have been surprised at the quality of some of these images. If we love our pooch then why not post images of them that show them in the best possible way, or failing that in a way that shows off their more quirky traits??

Apologies for speaking out but come on folks, lets see images that are at least in focus and not plonk a huge great nose in front of the lens that then makes everything else look way too small and NO I am NOT being hyper critical and no.. I am not expecting every picture to be pin sharp but this is a forum where folks might know how to take pictures that are at least in focus, or where we are standing over the poor pet and making them look up at the camera.... Get down to their level might give us a better picture, try to avoid flash unless we can use it without making the eyes look silly!!

Best wishes to all fellow pet lovers

Hmmm, mine are certainly NOT so good, but the title of this thread, only says, "show us your pets". Frank may have meant for us to "show us your best shots of your pets". Sorry if I assumed it just meant "show us your pets". I admit, mine are not photos, just snapshots and I'd have to go shoot some more instead of just showing what pets I have.
Sorry Frank, not gonna apologize if my pets don't look so good, but it's YOUR thread and I WILL apologize for if I messed it up for you.
