Shutter count on a Canon 7D Mk II

I have a like new 7D Mk II which I want to post for sale here UHH. I have tried in vain to find the shutter count on this camera. I know it is less, or near, 200 clicks, but I have been thwarted in trying to find that actual count.

I have tried a number of downloads, and they claim I have to install new USB drivers, which I do not want to do, out of fear of infection from a source I do not know.

I have tried several websites that invite you to upload an image taken with the camera. They give me all the metadata about the camera, lens and image, but state there is no shutter count data on the image.

I thought that there might be a menu option to record the S/C on the images, but I do see one.

I bought this camera to be a backup for my 5D Mk IV, however, since then I have purchased a much smaller 24mp Mirrorless camera for that job. I just do not need the 7D Mk II anymore. It is like new, but I know a buyer here on UHH us going to want the shutter count.

Any suggestions?

A number of apps exist to provide you with the shuttercount, but, I have never used any of them so I can't help you there. Unless you went into the menu and changed the way your images are numbered the camera will number them in sequence. If, for example, your most recent shot is 909A1529 then you have 1529 activations. Doesn't matter if you deleted any shots, the count will continue in sequence.

http://eosmsg.com/ works. It costs a few $ (<10) per camera for as many readings as you want.

That is a little steep for a camera I am going to sell, but thank you for the suggestion.

If you wish to be cheap, then perhaps you don't need shutter count numbers anyway. If it is as low as you say, you can state something like less than 1000, and if the purchaser checks they'll be pleased. Just pick a high enough number. If you get it too low by a big margin I'm sure somebody here will rip you a new one.

I bought a refurb 80D from Canon last August. It came with around 3K clicks, which I thought a little high, but no problem given the expected shutter life and with a year's warranty. Funnily enough the battery supplied turned out to be defective, but once I diagnosed the problem and contacted Canon they just shipped me a new one.

Canon does not record shutter count information in EXIF data. You can try any site in the 'verse, and you'll still not get a result.

I have Shutter Count (Windows version) from Dire Studios. It cost me $2.99 about 3 years ago. My newest camera is the 7D mk2 and it works great (also for my 7D and T1i). I believe they quit the Windows version but still have it for Mac and iPhone. It says the iPhone version works with cameras that have wifi. http://www.direstudio.com/shuttercount/

No. There is no war. Shutter count really isn't that important most of the time, and if you wish to know you can find out.

Sarcasm - just being a smart ass.
You're right, shutter count isn't very important. Now, if there was a way to find out how many heartbeats I have left...
