If you can't find the software, check the manufacturer's website. You can usually download the basic software for your camera free. Sometimes they have more capable editing programs but they charge for them.
Thank you.

Photoscape. Really easy to learn, and can do all the basic quick edit stuff.

My former laptop had some program built in that enabled me to lighten up too-dark shots and to crop without using Paint. This one either doesn't have such or has it so well hidden that I can't find it.
I have about 400 photos from my daughter's wedding and I'd like to try 'fixing' some, but I do not want to purchase any software.

Thank you for any help you can offer.

Windows photo gallery is good. Can batch auto correct in a biatch mode. I believe it is part of Windows essentials. Microsoft stopped supporting it with updates a couple of years ago.

Just looked up more info on this. It is no longer downloadable from Microsoft.

You could try Ribbet which is an on-line editor. Has many effects and ways to manipulate photos. The free version will do just about all you want and if you want more the paid one is cheap. Does not put watermarks on the free on. I use it quite a bit (free version). Worth a look anyway. Rubber.com

It is this kind of informative, factual post that makes UHH such a valuable resource.

Well done, Jerry!

What system are you using? My computer uses windows 10 and the free software for photo editing that comes with it is all I use. If you shoot raw then it's another matter.

I use PhotoScapeX and it works very well for me. It can be used accurately with 3 or 4 clicks or you can REALLY get into serious editing. Here are a couple of sites for you, Enjoy. Be sure to select Mac/or Windows. Get the free version first, it never expires, and you can always upgrade. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWC-SAuYOzw&t=325s Instruction and download info http://x.photoscape.org/. Happy Shooting, JimmyT

Try Canon's ZoomBrowser EX. It does most of my simple editing, but doesn't deal with RAW files. If you can't find a download, let me know and I will send you a copy of the CD that will install it.

Faststone Image Viewer, which is free (donation recommended) and has:

Free download from Faststone
Has a download executable file which can be installed on your computer
Has a mobile download which can be installed on a flash drive and run from a USB port on any PC computer without installation
Has and 80 plus page PDF user manual which is very easy to use
Has batch function tools for rename, resize and editing for large numbers of files at once.

Much More, and organizes files on your command.

This machine has Windows 8. There's a newer laptop; I'll have to check if it's running Windows 10.

Thank you.

Windows 8 was a very poor OS and can easily be converted (upgraded) to Windows 10. Microsoft's best ever OS.

All of Adobes products cost money and they all run in "BIATCH" mode.

But then, the Photos program built into Windows 10 is also a real "BIATCH" to run, and is best to remove and replace by Window Live Photo Gallery, which I am happy to say is still available, and I just downloaded and installed on one PC, Free (on a Windows 10 PC)

This info from Answers/microsof

"Although Windows Essentials (which includes Photo Gallery) is not supported (won't get any updates) anymore, you still can download the offline installer. During the installation you can choose which programs you want to install.

Below is the download link. I've just now tested it and it works perfectly fine. It takes a bit long to load but just wait a bit.

Windows Essentials latest version 16.4.3528.0331:

https://web.archive.org/web/20170112124505/http://wl.dlservice.microsoft.com/download/C/1/B/C1BA42D6-6A50-4A4A-90E5-FA9347E9360C/en/wlsetup-all.exe"

Not a usable link.. must be copied and pasted into your address bar without the quote at the end. Will start a download of the wlsetup.exe file (windows live setup file)
