I have an old Macro-Nikkor 105mm 1:2.8 manual lens, so the camera does not add the data to a picture. These pic's are all hand held, with some wind. Best viewed on download and can be zoomed. No flash used. Please let me know what I can do to improve
They look really great to me.
My advice - keep on doing what you're doing now!
My kind of photography. And you've nailed it. No advice, except to keep up the good work!

Like them!!! Looks great..... I've been fighting with wind here in Fl. for what seems like weeks now...now its rain and wind...but we will take it, been heading into a worsening drought in my area...me thinks it (drought) may go away now with the tropical moisture creeping in.
I shoot a lot with older manual focus lenses. In manual modes as well. The Flickr link under my signature will lead you to numerous examples. Oh, almost all shots handheld as well. I do use a ring light or a softbox equipped speedlight as it allows me to stop down the lens for additional depth of field (pitifully narrow as it is) and the short duration of the flash stops motion, be it mine or my subjects.
it's working just fine...
