If it was bought from B&H, then B&H will repair it. See Henry Posner's link above and read it.
It sounds to me they are talking about new grey market equipment, not used, which is the subject of this thread. B&H says they don't differentiate between USA and grey market used equipment since they are not under warranty anyway. But I think people should be told that although Canon will repair used grey market equipment, Nikon will not.

I agree. I have been ranting about Nikon's territorial policies for months. I've never owned any Nikon and never will - until they change their practices. I'm not holding my breath.

I have been a Nikon guy since the '60s and I wouldn't buy grey market, so the policy doesn't affect me. But if I were going to buy used Nikon equipment, I would want to know if it was grey market or not. The Nikon grey market repair policy makes that an important piece of knowledge, and I guess that B&H doesn't understand that. I have often bought from them and have been very happy, but I wouldn't buy used Nikon equipment from them if they couldn't tell me if it was grey market or not.

I'm sure Nikon knows your concerns and refuses to change their policies just to annoy you.

It still doesn't address the issue that Nikon won't repair grey market equipment. Not everyone knows that.
It is my experience with Nikon in Melville they will repair any Nikon product if they have the parts to service that item. What they will not do is repair under warranty gray market items. Anyone out there have a different take on this.
Does Nikon make the gray market lens?? If it does, why wouldn't they repair it. If they don't make it, who does??

Officially imported lenses end up with a five year warranty if your register them with NikonUSA; gray market lenses have no Nikon warranty and only whatever warranty the seller provides. ... Officially imported lenses are worth less at resale, because savvy Nikon users understand the consequences of the above two items

I wish Nikon would adopt this policy. If you buy a gray market Nikon camera or lens, you're out of luck if you need factory repair service.
Two different distributing networks. Not the same at all. Canon USA is the same distributor as Japan, as Europe, etc. etc. etc.
Nikon actually contracted out USA. So USA Nikon is a different company than Nikon Japan. So, Nikon USA offers a warranty through USA. They dictate the prices, and everyone knows that Nikon USA sells their Nikon products at a higher price than Japan Nikon. So, you are getting warranty service through NIKON USA, and only NIKON USA. If you want to save money and skip the USA warranty, buy gray.
So if I come over on a longer stay , and a nikkor breaks down , then would I have to wait until I am back in Europe because Nikon USA will not fix my lens ?

The issue is not warranty service. Nikon will repair out of warranty USA equipment and charge for it. But they won't repair grey market equipment even if you want to pay for it. I assume this is to discourage people buying grey market.

How long would you be here? Would you want to send your camera for repair and wait two weeks to get it back? This whole gray market repair situation is awful and tricky, but we're stuck with it. For some reason, camera makers has a separate entity import and sell their products. Maybe Nikon would repair your foreign product, and maybe they wouldn't. That sounds liker a good question to ask Nikon.

Again, folks just don't understand the difference between Nikon and almost every other camera manufacture. The history goes back to just after WWII and trade that was developed between Japan and the US. EPOI was the first to get contracts with Nikon. EPOI later was either bought out by or changed it's name to NIKONUSA. But, you have to understand that EPOI and NIKON USA is a DIFFERENT company than NIKON. Canon does not operate this way.
So, like it are not NIKON USA offers it's own warranty program, it is not the same as a Nikon Japan warranty, or a any other country Nikon Warranty.
So, again, if you don't like it, there is nothing anyone can do about it. And, if you like what Canon does, then buy them.
Lets stop this sour grape talk. If you like Nikon, live with it or, change brands.

It doesn't matter what the history is, or the reason why. The issue is that people buying used Nikon equipment need to know if it is USA or grey market if they may want to get repairs from Nikon USA.
