Had my computer worked on and NIK disappeared. After all the talk on UHH and elsewhere I though that it was gone forever. Anyhow I google Nik and was able to download all the software for free. So if you want NIK this is the time to get it. Best of luck

Good advice. Things do go away, especially in this age of streaming and downloads. I keep software install kits on a hard drive - backed up - so I can pretty much resurrect anything that isn't available anymore, so long as I can find a way to make it work with current technology.
Sometimes taking the trouble to make copies can be a pain, as can rebuilding things, but if you want the capability it is sometimes necessary.
Good luck
Sorry for the ignorance , but what is NIK?

No, your ignorance should not be excused, if you are on UHH, then you are on the net and so can go to Google and ask for NIK HISTORY.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nik_SoftwareGoogle owned it for quite a while and the price bit by bit dropped from $500 to FREE. Now this series of photo mod plug-in is owned by DXO and can be downloaded at:
https://nikcollection.dxo.com/download/Do not feel bad Dan, not picking on you specifically.... most of UHH are helpless regarding looking up things and expect others to do it ... not sure why. I am amazed too at the "get what you pay for" goup that says more cost gives you better equipment. Also amazed at the people who.. not professionals.... who spend thousands on equipment that rarely if ever will be used.
But thank you all... it appears there may be updates in the NIK collection haven't checked yet, but will download.

The NIK Collection is a group of EXTREMELY useful post processing programs that can be used as plug-ins to Lightroom, PhotoShop or PS Elements. If you know how to navigate around your computers folder structure some can also be used as standalone programs. Each one is like a mini post processing program geared to a specific tasks like like color images or B&W images or HDR. The set was owned by Google and originally cost $500 and the price was eventually cut in half. Google more recently decided not to support the package anymore and started giving it away for free. Several months ago Google sold NIK to DXO Labs. The first DXO Labs branded version will be available in June, most likely at a cost.

That might also be a false positive. The certificate may have expired on the download site, but it could be OK. If concerned give DXO a little time to fix it, or just proceed with caution. Another reason I'm glad I have the install kits in my SW library.

Wow, thanks for saying exactly what I've been feeling for years about UHH followers. I have been subscribed to this site for years and do occasionally extract a nugget of info but am mostly amused at the endless regurgitations of the same topics (RAW vs jpg, Adobe vs everything else, Canon vs Nikon).

Maybe it's because they are in Chapter 11 and haven't paid their bills.

Donald, I have to take issue with you regarding not excusing Dan's "ignorance".
It's also been pointed out to me that I could have (should have?) looked up the answer to a question I asked on UHH.
Here's what I said at the time: "I don't always think of Google when a question pops up in my head while I'm reading a UHH thread. Also, in asking on UHH one hopes to get an answer based on someone's experience. Wading through web-based info can be very confusing at times. Almost any question raised on UHH can be answered, at least to some extent, by googling. Does that mean that one should not ask questions on UHH?"
My 2 cents worth....

I have some future questions for UHH that I hope will spark a lot of conversation.
"I'm think of taking up photography, what camera should I choose?"
"I just bought a Nikon D850 and can't figure out how to turn it on. Please help"
"My family budget will only allow for food or the Adobe Photography Plan. Which one should I choose?"

I think that is why folks ask (sometimes inane) questions in this arena.....looking for experience and opinion. If a post appears inane, just go on to the next one. Research (I do a lot on my own) does not always get you beyond data and specifications. New folks and less experienced are often looking for that "mentor" experience. In my business life I often coordinated (sometimes large) groups of engineers/scientists/vendors/manufacturers/buyers/legal/contracts/safety folks to determine best path....I was always impressed by the sharing of knowledge (even if not always amicable) in these groups. Same thing happens here, and yes, sometimes questions seem dumb...but I always think of particular situations where a seemingly "dumb question" resulted in a more resilient subsystem or vehicle, or saved hundreds of thousands/millions of dollars, potentially saved lives.
So go ahead folks...keep asking those questions....we will answer those that deserve it, and ignore those that don't - and you experts and mentors - help them out, or ignore them...its up to you.
another two cents....
