I am asked to take pictures of larger groups, sometimes in cramped conditions, and with groups larger than 12 people, what are some ways you use to ensure sharp focus on the edge of the group? I am using a 24-70 Tamron, and try and use greater than 35mm to make the edges sharper, but any help would be beneficial.

I was shooting weddings in the 1970s and had large wedding parties. I would shoot them in front of the alter, usually had one or two steps up to alter area, taller in back shorter in front. Tried to use fifty mm lens. Flash on camera usually gave around f8, no problems with focus. If I had to use wa lens it was a 28mm prime, same f8. Also used front steps of church. This was all on FF film camera.

FF, Tamron 24-70, focal length 35mm, no flash, camera was only 15 feet away front the center person, hand held, 7 photos taken in 5 seconds, panorama merged in LR, don't know it's quality is ok for you?

Most group photos are enlarged to 8 x 10 inches (1:1.25 aspect ratio). The native aspect ratio of most DSLRs is 1:1.5 (36mm x 24mm), so if you plan to enlarge your photos to 8 x 10 you will need to crop significantly. Remember to leave a lot of space around all borders. This will eliminate distortion and allow you to print 8 x 10 prints.

Most clients want an 8x10. Panoramas don't work if this is the case.
