Since the photo was taken in Ontario, I came up with 1st spring Juvenile Scarlet Tanager. Attached image is of a Summer Tanager, they don't go north that far.
I found a photo of a yellow variant male house finch, but the yellow colouring just replaced the usual pink and the rest of the bird was the usual brown/beige.

Possibly a juvenile male house finch. A naturally over saturated one.

Wife also identified it as scarlet tanager. In second grade, some 75 years ago, her teacher taught them bird identification. Amazed she has remembered so long!
Doesn't look like normal Scarlet Tanagers. Lots of photos show up if you google the name.Wife also identified it as scarlet tanager. In second grade, some 75 years ago, her teacher taught them bird identification. Amazed she has remembered so long![/quote]

I think your assessment that this is a Scarlet Tanager is most likely correct. I'm have heard of rare occurrences about cardinals being almost all yellow (sort of an "albino" cardinal), but not mixed color like this.

My book "Birds of Canada" didn't help, nor did a "Google" search for images of "yellow bird with red head". Even Cornell couldn't help.
The crest on his head looks like a bit of a Cardinal family, but they don't show up too often up North.
My Sister in Law is putting it to canvas, and will be asking around also. I hope to ID him soon......

Excellant capture of this rare bird, Geezer. If Google can't tell you what it is, I doubt you'll ever get an ID.

Here's the closest. Even a slight crest.

1st year Summer Tanager. The "crest" may be caused by his adult plumage coming in. No doubt in my mind, with the second picture, that Hsch39 has this pegged right.

Also, the bill is not a cardinal's bill. I don't recall ever seeing an immature Summer Tanager. Really good captures but the second one is exceptional.

Very good. I had no idea that they looked like this before going all red. I have pictures of adult males and females but never thought they would look like this.
