Moonrise over Mallorca.
Mallorca is a beautiful island in the Balearic archipelago northeast from Spain. It is a popular destination for Germans and British citizens. April is a popular month for tourists because the temperatures are mild and the rains associated with winter weather are gone. I had three days of rain while there! For those of you who like music it was here that in 1838 Fredrick Chopin and her partner Amandine Dupin (George Sand) spent the winter while Chopin was suffering of tuberculosis. It was said at the time that the Mediterranean improved the health of such patients.
These are all images from Mallorca. I was walking around the port of Mallorca when I saw the moon rising in the light mist present in the background. The following image is the Cathedral of Mallorca at night. It is a Gothic style building built by King James I around 1230 after arriving at Mallorca the year before and defeating the Arabs. Plenty of information for those interested is available in a Google search.
The following image is the Palacio de Albudaina, adjacent to the Cathedral, another old historic building. The last picture is a sunset over the port of Mallorca. I was trying to reach a favorable position in the marina to photograph the sunset but I was not allowed to photograph there so I had to use a tele from the other side of the marina close to the port. At times we have to work with what is available to us.
All images with my Olympus EM-10 Mk II. I used the Zuiko 12-40 f2.8 Pro and the Zuiko 40-150 f4-5.6 kit lens. I used a cheap aluminum Dolica tripod with a Linhof ballhead. Editing was done with Affinity Photo and Photoshop and some of the images were enhanced using Topaz Adjust 5. Spot metering for all images.
Beautiful set!! Enjoyed them all!!!
Great set. Love the masts at sunset!
Great set. Brings back some great memories. Beautiful place and people.
Thank you for the kind words.
Thanks for the memories on Mallorca. Having only been there during the day, your evening pics are delightful. Really like your masts image. Great job.
Nice work on all of these, and I especially like the second and fourth ones.
Once again, thank you all for your kind words. Dennis, Mallorca and the other islands of the archipelago are simply beautiful islands with many beautiful places to see. Now I regret I did not hire a guide to see all of what Mallorca has to offer. My "guide" was a cousin that lives there but she suffers of polyneuritis with severe pain in her legs when she walks for a certain distance. I did not want to abuse of her hospitality so I confined myself to shoot around Mallorca and visited a couple of small towns around the island. Provenza was one of those towns and Puerto Colom the other. I will post some images from there with my next post.
John, as I said, I was trying to enter the marina by the Port of Mallorca but it is a private marina. The security guard was very polite when he told me that he was sorry but that he was not authorized to let anybody in except for members. I understood and moved near to shore a good 500 feet from there. I then fit the camera with the Zuiko 40-150 f4-5.6 kit lens and used the masts in the foreground exposing for the light in the background to make them on purpose a silhouette. As I said, sometimes we have to work with what we have. That was a hand held shot courtesy of the in camera image stabilizer otherwise a tripod would have been a necessity.
