They play semantics. If you ask if the item has a US warranty, you get aftermarket from a US company that is not the manufacturer. Maybe not bad, but not factory. The phrase that pays is" US FACTORY warranty."

As you can see it's true.

A happy customer tells two but an unhappy customer tells 12!

I purchased my first digital camera(D70) from an outfit in New York, maybe Brooklyn. The sales person told me I needed a charger @ 178.00.I asked him if the charger comes with the camera. He assured me that it didn’t.When the camera arrived it had a charger in the carton.I called the store, they asked for the order number.I held on for maybe 20 minutes. After two days of trying to speak with someone about the charger,I gave up.I called American Express to withhold payment. They suggested that I send documentation regarding the purchase.I went online to copy the ad for the camera. It had been reduced by $100.00.I copied that.I also made a copy of the Contained in the carton.

I submitted all the printet information. After a few weeks past,I received a credit for $278.00.$100.00 for the price drop, and 178.00 for the charger.I sold the other charger on Ebay.If the had a better atitude, the could have saved the cost of the charger.I would have sent it back.

I now use B&H and sometimes Adorama.

This lesson can be learned by all who read this. You are not the first person that has dealt with this bait and switch outfit in Brooklyn. I've been told that even if you use the web site and order the item, they won't actually place the order until a sales person calls you and trys to upsell you. They will have a great deal on their web site then call you to say they are on back order and you will be happier with blah blah blah. I'm glad you and AE taught them a lesson.

While we're posting sites that are bad to deal with, how about listing companies that are good to deal with, along with favorable comments?

So far I've read recommended sites; Adorama, AMAZON, KEH and Cameta. This is the first time I'm hearing about Cameta.

Hi, If it isn't B&H, Adorama, KEH, Cameta and maybe a couple of others PLEASE go to reseller ratings.com and check the seller. This place has saved me so much and I'm still amazed at how many folks don't know about them. If you don't know them you must check them out as the camera business seems to breed these scam artists. After reading all that has been said about bait selling in the US I'm glad I live in the UK. We have a very strict trading standards policy. Any deviation from what you have ordered either in store or by mail order automatically the law goes on the side of the buyer.Items must be as described and fit for the purpose to which they were manufactured. All retail sales outlets must offer a equivalent replacement, or a total refund. This also applies to sale items. There is no half way house here, if the offending retailer does not comply with the law. The purchaser can apply to The Trading Standards Office to take up the case. The offending Retailer can be given a hefty fine or even put out of business as well as refunding you plus compensation. On the whole this system works very well for the purchaser, and he is fairly well protected against rogue traders.

To add to the list of reputable dealers in the US, I'd like to add Calumet. I have ordered numerous times from them, only had a problem with my order once (hot light lamp that did not work) and a phone call later, had a replacement next day. FANTASTIC company to deal with! I actually intend to drive 4 hours in a few weeks to step into their brick & mortar store to meet the people i speak with on the phone. Great people, great store(s)and great customer service.

Just a heads up. Another dealer that you might want to avoid is Brookstone. They advertise free shipping for any purchase of $ 99.00 minimum. I ordered an Olympus Zuiko lens which they quoted the price at $ 399.00. Went through all the proper steps of ordering then when I got to the final step of completing the order - I noticed they had stuck a shipping & handling fee of $ 81.58. After calling them asking to speak to a rep about this shipping cost, of course I was put on hold and finally after almost ten minutes of waiting, I was told the information for shipping the lens ($ 399) was correct - Good Bye and don't reply. I would avoid Brookstone at all costs.

JR.com in NYC is also very good. Good prices and fast delivery. They've been in business a long time - 70's, at least.
