Just purchased the B700 as a smaller lighter cam for oversees travel. User manual no clear of how to use USER (U) settings. Appears to only apply to P (Program) style, as I can't select any of the other (A, S, M) when I go into U. Anybody clarify this? Thanks
I believe if you download the pdf manual from the Nikon site, it is more comprehensive than the paper manual that came in the box.
I can't answer your question but I have had the B700 for 4 months and am trying to get the most out of this camera in comparison to my dslrs. I find that using manual settings and shooting in fine jpg and raw works the best for me because I can review the jpgs, then convert the raw files I want to post process. Converted and processed raw files have produced the best results for me on the B700.
I also found shooting video in 4K on the B700 gets superior results compared to shooting in 1080P on my Nikon D7000.
Thanks for your quick reply, Bobspez! The PDF from the site is very good, but still leaves me with questions. My first results with some modified settings in Picture Control (specifically increasing saturation and sharpness) were disastrous. Way over exposed, but when I reset everything (on all modes) everything was fine as was modifying the settings (only) in P, A, S modes. My current thinking is the U settings end up being additive to the individual, but don't know that for sure.
If you can get your hands on Alexander White's wonderful manual on the B700, it probably will clear up your confusion. He is usually much clearer, and with examples, than the Nikon Manual.
Yes, insman1132, have been trying to find the book in local bookstores so I can have a look as I'd like to know if it is worth the price before going to Amazon. So far no luck.
Trust me! It is worth the price! I have both his books on the P900 and the B700 and they are both outstanding. Oh how I wish there was an Alexander White writing for my Canon SX60!
