Timing is everything...Great shot on such a rare bird... (a rare bird in the viewfinder is worth more then....Brussels sprouts)
I give up. What is it and where are you? I don't remember seeing a bird like this in North America.
I'm in North Platte, NE and this is an Eastern Towhee (according to many, at any rate).

Ok, thanks for the reply. I've never seen one probably because it's an eastern bird. I did feel that it has some of the traits of the Spotted Towhee.

Hi All - Sorry to be a wet blanket, but this is a female Spotted Towhee, an uncommon to fairly common breeder to northern Nebraska. The streaked scapulars and back feathers are the give-away. Female Eastern Towhees do not have any markings on the wings or back except for the white base to the primaries.
