Does anyone have a recommendation for a good digital frame. This will be a gift for my granddaughter who is a high school graduate heading to college. I will load all the images I have taken of her since birth.
Fun project.

Thanks!!!

I had a nice 8x10 ish Phillips with a wood frame that lasted only a few years. They didn't make them any more when trying to find a replacement. I went with a ViewSonic the second time. No problems ... so far after running 24hrs a day now for a few years.

Nix makes a very nice frame; we have them here in the 8 and 10-inch models, both for more than a year with no problems. Media can be loaded via memory card or usb flash drive. They're not cheap but not outrageously expensive either. I ordered them thru Amazon.

I recommend that you give her one SD card with the pictures you described and a second blank card. In college she may want to display her pictures on the frame and put your card in for special times.

I had two ViewSonic frames and they both failed (as did a Viewsonic monitor). Presently I am using a Micca frame (from Amazon) and I am very satisfied with it.

I had a Smartparts frame that worked fine for 12 years, but recently failed to come on. I ordered a NIX wide screen and it worked perfectly right out of the box. Granted, I already have a file on my PC dedicated to electronic media, but all I had to do is copy this file to the included drive and plug it in.

I agree with the NIX. Screen quality and brightness are great. My wife has one on her desk. Motion sensor turns it on when she’s there and turns it off when she leaves. Very simple to set up. Not the cheapest on the block but a very good choice.

They’re all gimmicks. They die in 6-18 months. I’ve had two, given three as gifts... All died, one in 92 days (90 day warranty).

I would put all those images on a name brand USB 3 flash drive, instead. She can use them any way she likes, then, on smartphones, tablets, computers, smart TVs, and social media sites.

What a great gift idea. You might consider giving the exact same thing to her mother who will no doubt be missing her terribly.

While not a traditional “digital frame”, i would check out a version of a frame from NIX called “Nixplay”. This is a cloud based digital frame and can be updated and controlled remotely.

Why do I like it? We have 3 running. One master here, and one at each set of grandparents. We can put a custom set of pictures (and as of this week, short videos) on each of them. As we take everything from quick phone snaps all the way to edited pictures from my Nikon, we can organize and upload whatever we want from any of our 6 devices in the house. The grandparents get an everchanging set of pictures to look at every day (or at least when we upload new stuff). Full control remotely, and full monitoring, allows us to control the frames (on/off times, display settings, transitions, format, etc) anywhere we are web connected.

I keep getting calls from both sets of parents whom look at them every day for new stuff. For my parents, whom are just about housebound and well beyond even email on a computer, these have been a perfect solution.

These are absolutely fabulous if you want to be able to easy update/add to a remote frame and/or have someone whom does not want (or is unable) to work with technology).

As for the comment on quality - it has been a race to the bottom. These were at the upper end, and when I did not like one of the three as recieved, they replaced on the first call and sent a return UPS label to get the old one back. Excellent phone support, even on the weekends.

It's a very thoughtful gift, but have you considered that a teenage girl heading off to college is very unlikely to display a photo frame containing every picture you have taken of her since birth for her friends to see? Its probably a more appropriate gift for her parents who will miss her.

Giving the digital photos to her parents would be a lovely idea but in this case probably not more appropriate. Our granddaughter loves to look at her photos and always pulls out the albums or my computer to see them. Her folks don’t take many photos. Shes leaving home for the first time and, knowing her well, I’m pretty sure she’s gonna love having this.

That's fine. I just felt I would have been remiss by not mentioning it.
