Is it ok if I watch the movie even though I was an Ektachrome shooter?

No. You have to wait for the sequel.

Your right! A great movie especially for us photo buffs. đź‘Ť

quote=Rab-Eye]Folks, do yourselves a favor and watch the movie Kodachrome on Netflix. It is about the end of the Kodachrome era, but it was packaged in a riveting and powerful film. I loved it, and I think others will as well. By the way, you certainly don’t have to be a photographer to appreciate this movie.[/quote]

I had high hopes that were dashed by all the sarcasm and endless ego trips of the actors.

Thank you. You beat me to it by 3 seconds. I assume he means pledge but then he used it again so apparently not a typo.

And then there’s the “hedge”.... Less commitment.

I'm holding out for what may well be impossible - someone stepping up to process Kodachrome film again. I'be eight or nine rolls shot so long ago i don't remember what's on them - and I'd really like to find out.

I was a Kodachrome shooter because the Ektachrome back in the 70's were quite bad. In 2010 Kodak discontinued Kodachrome and I tried a roll of Ektachrome 100 and I liked it better than the Kodachrome 64 I used to shoot. So now I only wish that Kodak would reintroduce Ektachrome like they promised a year ago and I have not seen it.

I watched it too very good story... I guess they couldn't get the rights to the Paul Simon song :)

BTW been with Netflix since it was DVDs only...great value.... they have been really hitting it out of the park lately...Lost in Space was good too.

Also Nat Geo did a doc on the last roll of Kodachrome ever made (2009) ... shot by real life photographer Steve McCurry.... very interesting....
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUL6MBVKVLI One take away for me with that doc is using digital for test shots when you have limited frames on film.

If you like Lost in Space you should watch The 100

A few labs process Kodachrome to black-and-white... But the color process is completely dead. I'd put the chances of reviving that at 0.00000001%.

Kodak *has said* they would bring back Ektachrome.

It's been a year and a quarter since they said so at CES 2017. The video linked above is from 11/2017.

I hope the new version is a LOT more stable than the old one. All my Ektachromes from 1969 to 2005 have faded severely. The yellow dye layer is usually the culprit.

I loved the movie but my wife hated the fact that Ed Harris’ character was such an a—hole. She did love his monologue at the end to the photogs in the hotel and the slide show during the credits was fantastic. I’m in the process of scanning old slides mostly shot with Kodachrome 64. The only corrections I had to do in post were exposure (my faulty shooting). The colors are true and vivid even after 50+ years.

When they started netflix I made a fledge never to use their service.

Why exactly? We stream using the 4K version of Netflix for $13 per month which allows for three simultaneous connections, and between all the members of my family we watch dozens of movies and TV shows a month. In fact between Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime we almost never watch anything except for the news and some sporting events on cable. Of course, for that you need a very good internet connection. I get 200 mbps downloads.

My wife had a bad professional experience with Reed Hastings, the owner of Netflix. Therefor I am forever forbidden to have any dealings with them. Sigh.

That's a shame. It's a great service and quite cost-effective for those of us that are able to take full advantage of it. Between my whole family we watch at least 15 feature films a month, as well as episodes of multiple TV series. The cost comes down to pennies per show and is a small fraction per movie of what it used to cost to rent from places like Blockbuster.
