Here is Jared Polin's take on what he thinks will happen with upcoming Nikon and Canon fullframe pro mirrorless offerings. Jared thinks Nikon and Canon will wipe out Sony's advantage and it will be a three-horse race.

I personally think we are so used to Nikon and Canon ruling the photo world, that many still can't believe that Sony could remain the fullframe mirrorless tech leader once Nikon and Canon are fully in the game. What do you think ?

I welcome the competiton as it keeps them all innovating and we all win, no matter our preferences.

Sony is smarter than most give credit for. It could have easily out run and put Panasonic and Olympus out of business with their own 4/3rds camera. But rather than taking over the 4/3rds market, other than a sensor market, that left Sony in the position to take on the big dogs Canon and Nikon in the FF and APS-C market. And Sony took a page out of the Olympus and Panasonic playbook by moving to mirrorless ASAP. When Sony originally announced they wanted to take the top spot, I thought they were nuts. Although they missed their prediction of when it would occur, I think now that they will overtake Canon and Nikon. The headstart Sony has is going to be hard to beat.

LoL, did you just cut and paste that from the last “big dog player”?
EVERYONE was saying exactly THAT about Samsung...., remember them???
Yeah, every blogger was saying the obituary of Canikon was mostly written.
Samsung has enough money to buy every camera company including Sony and turn them into washing machine factories.
It will take years and years for Sony to get the lens fire power of Canikon.
For some pros, it’s only about the body!
BTW, I did see one Sony!!! So they didn’t get skunked!!! LoL

Sharpshooter you need do more diligent research and pay more attention to the facts.

Presently Sony has 41 E-mount lenses with more being announced everyday like their new 400mm f2.8 which was tested at the Winter Olympics. And Sony already has 300mm f2.8 and 600mm f4 from their A-mount that works fine with Sony A-mount to E-Mount adapter. And Sony will have a native E-mount 600mm f4 released before the upcoming Summer Olympics. Sigma has announced multiple new E-Mount lenses for Sony, as well as Tamron, Laowa, Meike, Samyang/Rokinon, and many others. You can get quality lenses for Sony for just about any focal length. I am covered from 10mm-600mm ,plus 1.4X and 2X extenders for my Sony A7RIII A7III and A6500 with my quality Sony and Sigma glass. It is just a myth and fake news anymore that there is no glass for Sony. The lens manufacturer have seen the writing on the wall for the future and they are producing and releasing more quality E-Mount native lenses (without need for any adapters) for Sony E-Mount.

There is no professional need for anyone to own every lens in the Canon or Nikon arsenal. I never need to do that in the 40 years I shot pro Nikon and Canon gear around the world, from War to Wimbledon . No numerical advantage in total lens numbers has kept myself and many fellow pros from switching to mirrorless. LOL .
BTW (full disclosure) I did keep my Canon 17mm f4 Tilt-Shift lens when i switched over in January 2017. This is the ONLY specialty lens that has not been made for E-Mount yet. It works great with my Sigma MC-11 adapter. Cheers

News on Nikon's and Canon's professional fullframe mirrorless releases, probably both companies announcing them at Photokina this fall, for release late this year or early 2019. Sony Execs had already said they expected this timetable from Nikon and Canon. Canon says it is now willing to cannibalize its DSLR sales for mirrorless sales. Exciting times ahead for us all ! Cheers

GW, it's ok for you to be a big mirrorless fan! I don't have a problem with it. I just think your zealotness over Sony is a little out of proportion. What is Sony currently, #3? You make it sound like Sony will be #1 by the end of the year.
So you kept a T/S lens. Many pros out there have a favorite lens anong those 100+ lenses that Canon produces. Nobody has them all but there are many that some can't live without, that's why they make them. My fav lens in my line-up is the 200 f1.8. I'll keep my Canon just to use it. It's an important lens to me. The lens is WAY more important than whatever a ML body could do for me. I could give some up and switch but why give some up?
You mentioned that Sony was coming out with a series of f1.0 lenses, that would indeed be a big deal for Sony especially since Nikon can't physically make one, not AF anyway.
I don't see where a mirrorless could help me much.
And as my topic title states, I just don't see any mirrorless cameras at the events I shoot, and yes, I do see hundreds of photographers.
My guess is when the tech catches up Canon will dump the mirror and put out a ML 1Dx, it should be a lot cheaper!!!
Until then I probably just don't need it and my guess is, all the pros I see with the white lenses probably don't need it either nor will they be switching to Sony just because they've got the amateur market covered!!!
Do post some info on those f1.0 lenses!!!

Maybe a typo, I never said Sony was coming out with ANY f1.0 lenses (please repost where I said that) . There are Sony, Sigma, Samyang/Rokinon and other F1.4 E-Mount lenses, but no F1.0 lenses from Sony. F1.4 or F1.8 is fast enough.

And more Canon users than Nikon are switching to mirrorless because they can use great adapters like the MC-11 and keep their favorite Canon glass while getting the marked benefits of mirrorless cameras. Funny you should mention that Canon 200mm f1.8 lens ? A fellow Philadelphia-area pro and my best friend has the Canon 200mm f2 lens and switched from Canon to Sony a year before I did and uses his Canon 200mm f2 lens on his A7RII with the MC-11 adapter.

In fact this pro was the one who talked me into trying and then switching from Canon to Sony, as he had done, and I am glad he did. lol

From Jason Lanier

Until you personally use these fullframe mirrorless cameras in different real-world situations ,you can never truly know why it gives more than any DSLR can ever physically give me. But hey, use what you like and be happy. I have extensively used both systems in my professional work, and I choose mirrorless. You might get interested in Canon's fullframe mirrorless when it comes out. It will be hard for you to diss that mirrorless camera over lens choices. LOL. Cheers

This is a very simplistic headline.

Truth: the true value of operating company is ultimately based on cashflow they are expected to generate over the long run; value is how much cash would generate same cashflow if stockholders invested same money elsewhere. Based on this standard of finance, Nikon is reducing valuation of one of their divisions. There is no loss of liquid assets, and I'm not sure why this would affect anything other than the stock market.

BTW, not my headline, but the headline attached to the vlog by its author.

I truly hope Nikon thrives and prospers as a camera maker. We need Nikon making great products to keep all the others honest and still innovating. As a much smaller corporation than the mega-corporations of Canon and Sony, Nikon has the most pressure on it now to succeed with each successive release. The D850 was a winner DLSR with just a few focus deficiencies on the video side . Now Nikon knows it must have another big hit with its full-frame mirrorless entry. Any stumble now could be a problem. But I think Nikon will dig down deep and deliver. I hope so for all of us, no matter what we shoot with.

I truly believe the next 12-24months running up to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics will see the greatest introduction of ground-breaking imaging products from the Japanese camera industry ever, and also from other imaging product suppliers from China and Europe. Hold on to your camera straps and wallets for the ride ahead. Cheers

Yes, I should have said that .... and commented that I get no news, very little comment, via YouTube. Anyone can post there, say anything, regardless of credentials. That is why I searched the Internet for an edited source that I could read {I have a hard time analyzing a YouTube stream of words}

I don't agree with the headline, but Jcristina is a respected imaging reviewer. All the best shooters/reviewers are on the internet, facebook and YouTube nowadays. I will only quote or post here ones that have some earned credibility , no hacks. As you see ,I posted that one without any personal comment so everyone could just make their own evaluation of the content. Cheers

Sharpshooter, I spoke too soon. Meyers Optik announces 75mm f0.95 lens for Sony E-mount. So yes Sharpshooter there will be even faster than f1.0 lenses for Sony E-mount. Lens makers are loving making new lenses for this E-Mount. Sharpshooter, you must be clairvoyant about Sony.
https://www.sonyalpharumors.com/meyer-optik-announces-the-worlds-fastest-75mm-f-095-e-mount-lens/

Maybe Meyer Optik will also make this lens in Nikon and Canon mounts (maybe for the new Canon and Nikon fullframe mirrorless cameras). I think currently Nikon and Canon have f1.2 as their fastest glass. The future of cameras and lenses for all brands and mounts will be exciting. Cheers

I guess this will be practical lens.

On the other hand, Metabones has announced a special focal-reducing adapter that will allow one to mount Nikon F-mount lens on a Pentax Q-mount camera.
http://www.metabones.com/products/details/MB_SPNFG-Q-BM1

Mounting a 50mm f/1.2 lens via this adapter would give the same effect as a 25mm f/0.66 lens. This all sounds wonderful, but Pentax hasn't announced a new member of the "Q" family in 2-1/2 years (*) and no member of the family has an EVF, so I'm not sure who would actually purchase one of these adapters. I am thinking this is essentially a "look at what we can do" demo, and Metabones doesn't expect to sell many of them.

(*) I have a 4.65-crop Q-7 that I purchased 3-1/2 years ago, but no Nikon lenses.
