Nikon D500 not changing shutter speed

I hope someone can help with this issue. My Nikon D500 will not change the shutter speed in shutter priority mode or in manual mode. It also will not change shutter speed in aperture priority mode when I change the aperture. I am trying to avoid doing a factory reset or taking it to the local camera store. I'm really hoping it does't have to go back to Nikon.

Are you certain that you are looking at the shutter speed and not the ISO?

Yes. I tried changing the ISO to see if that would change the shutter speed.

You misunderstood my question. I wasn’t asking if you “tried changing the ISO” in order to see if the shutter speed would change. I am simply wondering if you were possibly looking at the ISO mistakenly thinking it was the shutter speed. The ISO would not necessarily change when you change the shutter speed or aperture. Stranger “operator errors” have occured.

Is it possible that you locked the shutter speed accidentally when poking around in the menu?

What problem do you have with a factory reset? I find that is the safest and most reliable way to diagnose problems with a camera. If a reset doesn't fix it it is a camera problem. If it fixes it, the camera is fine - it is something I screwed up!

The only problem that I have with a factory reset is setting everything up again (lazy). I did the rest last night.

I found the factory reset didn't reset much. Most of my settings are still there after the reset. Like shooting bank A, B, C and non cpu lens data.

If the factory reset didn't solve the pronlem, call Nikon tech services. They can be very helpful

If,you are worried about your settings, save them to a CD or XQD card, do the reset to factory reset, then load the saves settings. All will return to your personal settings.

So, if you clear the problem with a reset, you reload the settings and create the same issue. One could go the page 230 of the D500 Manual and check it out.

Thanks to everyone for the help. I did a factory reset. When the camera is set up again I will save my settings to avoid this issue in the future.
