My husband carries the lenses when I take photographs. He says that his shoulder hurts when he carries several heavy lenses, using a lens bag that is carried like a purse on one side. What lens bags would minimize that problem ?

Some sort of back-pack. Many to choose from. Find a comfortable one of the size you need. Too many to suggest any.

Possibly a front pack, too.

Try a back pack, it will distribute the weight more evenly.

A belt with lens cases attached. That puts the weight on the hips where the human body should be carrying the weight.

What kind of strap is he using? The kind that came with the camera? if so a wide sling strap may help and is easier to get things out of the bag than a back pack.

Domke makes a postman or post office shoulder pad that some swear by. It should sell for under $15.

I had shoulder surgery in the past so I can relate to his discomfort. I truly agree with those that recommended a camera gear backpack for it has been the solution for me. There are a lot to chose from with a wide range of prices as well. I prefer one that is water-resistant for I never know when the weather will change. They also provide a fair level of protection for many have padding and adjustable dividers to cushion your valuable gear.

They also make versions that are "theft resistant" that have a thin flexible cable embedded in the straps so no bad guy can run up and cut your straps and take off with your gear.

A backpack is probably the best solution. Alternatives to consider: 1. Do you really need to have him carry that many lenses? 2. Get the OP/TECH USA 0911012 S.O.S. Strap for $24. Something about the width and elasticity makes the load seem lighter.

I carry my camera bag cross-shoulder. It's more comfortable. It also has a wide curved shoulder pad on the strap.
I also have a backpack (with a chest strap) for long outings or hiking Acadia.

get a generic daypack, 2 shoulders to share the load, and a better weight distribution for his back.

FWIW I've also used the neoprene Op-Tech straps (https://bhpho.to/2HrNljP). They're kind to the shoulder but they tend to bounce. That annoys some people. YMMV.

Thinking outside the "lens bag" box: I have used a vest for may years and have never had any problems. Like a backpack, the vest evens the load.

Check out a backpack. I bought a nice Canon from B & H for around 45.00 dollars a couple of years back. Also, I have a nice photo vest from Cabella. The call it a Safari vest. Very reasonable, very nice.
