Walking on the Dark Side (may be disturbing to some)

Because, Life is not always flowers and butterflies....
These are part of a creative photographic experiment, inspired by the works of a featured artist showing at New York's Agora Gallery.

I wasn't prepared for how cathartic this exercise would be.
I found myself expressing a deep-seated NEED to move forward in my work... to express myself... to grab hold of success and fly with it.
But as is depicted in the following... it's like there's the thinnest sliver of ice separating me from the sky... and no-one can hear me "yelling for help".
(Incidentally, I made the artist's acquaintance on another forum, quite by accident... and wrote him, to say that he'd inspired me. I shared a link to a few of the selections... and thought that was the end of it. However, He DOES read his email apparently LOL... and was very generous in his reception of my photos and in his praise of my efforts as well. He said that the mere fact that I was so inspired to try something completely out of the box for me... is the highest compliment. *blush*

These are very different for you Miss Tilde and not exactly disturbing....but definitely different. I've looked at this post three times now and I still just can't find words to say how they make me feel, but I do empathize with the emotion that they convey. I feel this way every now and again .
You have some strong work here with even stronger artistic flair. Quite frankly, this series leaves me speechless and if they were posted in a gallery, I would sit on the bench in front of them for a long time, just looking and thinking.

True artistry cannot be denied. I still can't believe I am the only one to look at this....or have you taken everyone's words away so that they can't even think of a comment??

I am not sure what I think of these. I can not look at them for any length of time. They make me feel panic and claustrophobic. Maybe that says something about me. I gave up Stephen King years ago and these remind me of the feelings I would get reading his books. So they definitely evoke emotion.

I think a barbie doll with duck tape over it's mouth and then frozen is a little to dark for me. Is the victim dead, hands tied, ect?? If this represents art then I'm in the wrong place.

it is thought provoking, definitely different, not your usual. But it does provoke emotion, which is a sign of effective art. It made me flash back to a class I had with one of the original FBI profilers, he assisted with both the author of silence of the lambs and the director. He showed video tape of interviews with real serial killers, and they were beyond terrifying. would make an atheist believe in the devil, and would turn ACLU member to the pro death penalty side. I Got the same feeling with those photos as I did watching the video interviews. Powerful, frightening and very creepy! very very dark.

Tilde, it is hard to put into words the feelings these three photos evoke from me. I definitely GET the isolation and helplesness, the fear. As stated above, I can't look at them too long, yet I keep being drawn back to them. Your photos definitely have a story, and it's frightening.

Country's Mama: First, it's fabulous to see you posting again 'round here. Secondly, The artist's name is Mike JK Harris. (I'm thinkin' that's it).
The series HE did (which is featured at the esteemed Agora Gallery) was out of the norm for him as well... and although I have no idea what inspired HIM... I can assure you, my motives were not sinister nor speaking towards "victimization". Stephen King!? Now that, actually... is quite a compliment.

S-man: I've been a "victim" of some terrifying experiences in my life... a kidnapping at knife-point being one... beaten to unconsciousness and left for dead during a car-jacking, for another... and many more, too numerous and off-topic to list here.
I cannot imagine what you went through (or other first responders and authorities go through) being exposed to such heavy, emotionally devastating stuff on a regular basis. I remember what it was like for me working in the E.R. and trying not to be so empathetic that I become useless.
But to you and others who are wondering about the particulars in this series: it's not about victimization.
It is about a need to communicate effectively... and no matter HOW hard I try... no matter how many ways I try to do it... no matter how many people I THINK care enough to listen...
I am ultimately unsuccessful.
Expression is a deeply personal thing.
We all have a universal need to be heard and even more deeply...

And by doing the series and sharing it with the outside world... I have set her free.

Psychology has been a personal fascination of mine for years... aced it in college, too as well as Sociology.
I would be lying if I said that this was a psychology experiment from the beginning... but I am equally fascinated with the responses, as you are.
This time, (and this is rare), but.. this time....
it really was all about me.
