My wife uses a Dlux 6 and its a wonderful camera....no better or different than the Panasonic LX7..... the camera I used to recommend to friends.
That said if your considering Leica is there any point to buying a model that's 100% made by Panasonic?
Why not go for the CL? Its German, 100% Leica and the IQ is amazing. Also you get all those fabulous Leica lens choices.
You'll never pick up your Nikon again.
Whats the only rub...The price of course....and getting bitten by the Leica bug;-)

To jdm:
I have a Leica D-Lux 109 (Typ C) and love it. True, it is a German company that has the camera made in Japan. It has an electronic viewfinder that is close to optical quality, and will record videos in 4K definition. It also produces raw format output that can be read directly by Photoshop Elements 14. Pictures are sharp with excellent contrast. I'd recommend this camera to anyone who wants a quality compact camera and can afford the price.

Thank you for your endorsement, Charlie. It looks fantastic! I'm worried, though, that some say that it is exactly the same as Panasonic Lumix lx100 which sells for almost half. Do you know of differences other than branding? Much thanks for your feedback.

One of my sisters has the 109 & she says they are identical except for 2 things. The Leica badge and the full Leica worldwide warranty. So if you bought the Panasonic in the U.S. the warranty is honored in U.S. only. So, one's travels or not are a major consideration.

There is a side by side comparison here.
http://cameradecision.com/compare/Leica-D-Lux-Typ-109-vs-Panasonic-Lumix-DMC-LX100Main differences:
1. Leica has that nice red dot logo that everybody envies and says you are a serious photographer. Leica has a great selection of cool hats and tee shirts that you will be entitled to wear. Panasonic has
'Lumix' logo which says ... well.... Panasonic.
2. Leica has a 3 year warranty. Panasonic has ???
3. Panasonic has a finger grip on the body. Finger grip on Leica is an accessory.
4. Panasonic has remote control from phone. Leica has ???
5. Panasonic has 4K photo mode. Leica has ???
6. Panasonic $597. Leica $1,095
7. Leica - you can post on UHH and say 'shot this with my Leica'. Always sounds cool and authoritative.

That is super great feedback. I also heard that panasonic is made in china and leica in japan.
"Leica D-Lux (typ-109)" must be the dumbest ever camera name ........

I doubt that true, They are most likely made in the same factory just branded differently and with slight different firmware.

You buy a camera for its name??? Whats a smart name for a camera? D1x .... M240 ..... Rebel..... Oldsmobile 442 ?
Seriously What ???? Dumbo is a great name for an Elephant and then there is the nuclear weapon "Fat Boy"
"Whats in a name ..... a Rose by any other name would smell as sweet"
I just checked the wife's Leica. You are correct.... made in Japan ......the menu is still nothing like a German M240.
But if that's worth the extra money .... got for it. Leica will still send it to someone else if it needs repair.
Don't get me wrong ...I'm a Leica Fan and thinking about the CL ...... also to replace me Nikons
Yep ... "Leica D-Lux (typ-109)" is brilliant marketing name , no question about it . Will sell millions ....

I emailed Leica and they said the type 109 is still being made in Japan. So the LX100 and the type 109 were made in different places.
