Gets as much practice before you go as possible. Previous post said set on P mode and use auto focus. Excellent advice and you won't miss a shot. While in Amsterdam, go to top floor of library for great city wide shots. Also excellent cafeteria there at reasonable prices. Have a great time and take lots of pictures.
Camera manual, Nikon USA tutorials and UTube.

Thank you so much! I am frustrated with the zoom so I will take your suggestions and move closer until I get used to the camera.
Thanks again!

The longer the focal length (zoom), the higher your shutter speed needs to be to avoid blur. As a beginner shooting at 600mm, your shutter speed will need to be around 1/1,000 sec. Holding the camera correctly also helps reduce camera motion--check YouTube for steady camera holding technique.
Thanks again and I will check out YouTube!
