Planning on bringing my:

Tokina 11-16 f2.8 AT-X 116 PRO DX 11
Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM
Canon EF 24-70 F/2.8 L II USM
Tripod ??

Please let me know if this is a good set up?

Thanks,
SD83

I can remember when all I had was a 50mm lens for everything on a film SLR, owned by my father. But today, most photographers would not be content with just one prime lens. I found out that in my past travels, it was necessary to have a lens to reach out to 200mm. But, you can make due with what you have. You do have a 1.6X factor. Enjoy your trip.

I would say a long focal length zoom up to at least 300mm is missing from your bag for the trip.

Don't!
Take a single piece of photo gear: a full performance bridge camera like the Panasonic Lumix FX1000.

I spent two weeks each of two visits to Germany some years ago. I took one Nikon F, two lenses, and a lot of film. The two lenses were a 28~85 and an 80~200. That was it.

Have spent considerable time in Italy and out of curiosity checked all of my photos of Orvieto. Every one was shot with my 24-105 and no tripod. During my last trip to the mainland and Sicily which lasted one month I kept 2440 shots. Of those 8 were shot with my 70-200. The rest were all with the 24-105. We traveled by car and, despite having the room, I never found a need for a tripod. Have a great trip!

If you are going alone--take the tripod---

otherwise it will be a pain in the neck, in the way , attracting unwanted attention, etc.

I have been to Italy a couple of times and it is beautiful. I found that I only used my old kit lens 28-135 and my 10-22. I only wanted to let you know what I took with me and it turned out to be all I ever needed. Plan on taking some night photos, like the open market stands as an example and the city lights. Have a great trip!

You choice of lenses is good, would recommend 2 things. Upgrade to a full frame camera, there are some great deals on the 6D mark I. Also a long lens… 300mm + . Italy has many narrow streets which require extreme wide angles and some great photo opportunities at a distance. A monopod is useful also. When I travel I also carry my SX60 for those quick snap shots and easy videos.
I don’t know how long you will be in Italy. Whenever I go I always try to extend. A few years back when I was 55, I extended a month in Europe, brought my folding 24” bicycle, a Euro rail pass and spent the nights at youth Hostels. My back pack was filled with Camera Equipment; I bought necessities as needed on the way. Make it an adventure and have fun!

You are being served with excellent advice. All I can add is: I purchased a Tamrac "velocity" bag so that I could carry two 5D2 bodies and three lenses, along with a 2X extender. On two of my trips to Europe, I took it all. Now, however, I leave it at home every summer when we go on holiday. Instead, I now take only one 5D2 body with the 24-105 lens. The 24 offers a nice wide capture, and if the 105 doesn't get close enough, I use my Photoshop to crop exactly what I want. So I encourage one body, one lens. Then enjoy yourself.

Travel light. You will thank yourself.

You'll likely get the most use out of the Canon EF 24-70 F/2.8 L II USM.

If this lens has image stabilization, then you will not need a tripod for shooting the event.

In fact, it would make more sense to include a flash unit for bouncing flash lighting off a nearby surface -- like a ceiling or a wall -- when shooting indoors or in low light.

Learn more about flash lighting here: http://planetneil.com/

If you do not want to do flash lighting, then shoot at a higher ISO setting indoors or at night in order to gain a sufficient shutter speed.

I agree with carrying extra memory cards and batteries, along with a battery charger. Include a lens cleaning kit, too.

Bring only only camera bag that will hold everything.

I see no issue with what you want to take. You know what you like to shoot so back as required.

For the last five years on our trips to Europe (Italy, Sicily, France, Great Britain, Germany) I have carried a carbon fiber Promaster tripod that fits in my carry on backpack along with a set of clothes and laptop. The small camera bag goes with me at all times

I have a Nikon D500 but before the D5000 and pack the camera, a 18-300 zoom, 10-24 wide angle, a SB800 flash and extra camera and flash batteries and memory cards, lens blower and cleaning brush, in my small camera bag. I also have a wireless remote in the camera bag. This is the same set up I take here in the states. The charging equipment goes in the back. I have now added a cotton carrier to hold the camera with the heavy lens when walking. Also on rough trails hiking poles are very nice. Get a pair that fits in the checked baggage. Side note depending where you are staying not all places have elevators; so youmay want to pack light

See if you can get a pack back with wheels that will fit in the over head or at least under the seat.
Our trips are 4 to 5 weeks and we rent a car once we leave the cities. We hike both the cities and the country side. We are 68 and so far no major issues.
