BIF First Attempt

I've always heard that BIF was a very challenging area of photography. Thought I'd give it a try and discovered just how challenging it really is. For this first attempt I used a tripod with an Acratech ballhead in Gimbal mode. My hand held efforts yielded disastrous results. I really admire those who are able to succeed without the aid of a tripod.

That's a good photograph. That heron doesn't seem to happy to have his picture taken though... he's really giving you the evil eye

I'm so bad at BIF that I don't bother. This is really nicely done!

Nice. A longer lens would smooth out the background more, however.

Very good first attempt. Usually when people do it for the first time they display a butt shot of the bird flying away, or positioned wrong in the frame, or shutter so slow that the bird is blurry etc. You did a fantastic job for the first attempt. Remember to always keep the eye of the animal in focus.

Great first shot! I just started working on them this week as well, it's
a good challenge for spring around here when the cranes, geese and
swans start coming around.

Good job. Crop out the distracting shore line and your subject becomes even more compelling.
