Canon G12 or even smaller S95 - both can shoot raw and take excellent quality photos.

Canon SX 50 or SX 60

Yes, I love mine, but it is bulky and thus I use my Sony HX50 22pix ... fits in pocket or belt back. I call these not point and shoot... as one would call a fixed lens el-CheapO... rather these super zoom pocket cameras are 24/7 cameras... mine is always on Auto... like "Fast Draw McGraw".... if needed, will use other settings... Amazing what the little man inside my camera does with the settings.

There are two things I would want if they are available. First would be an optical viewfinder and if small size is a concern probably more easily available on a used camera. The second would be AA batteries for a power source. There are some really choice bargains available on ebay from time to time that have both these options.

Good recommendation

I'm wondering why 1) those who ask about Point and Shoot Cameras and 2) most who reply, rarely consider that size might matter? I realize that point and shoot cameras vary in size, isn't size a consideration? It seems that very few people raise this when posting -- some do, but it seems not many. Are people not bringing this up because size doesn't matter or are assumptions being made that some consider incorrectly that Point and Shoot Cameras are compact?

Good recommendation br br I'm wondering why 1) t... (show quote)

You bring up a good point. However, the Op's original question in the post was: What quick and simple point and shoot do you use? Many answered that we use a bridge style camera such as the SX50, SX 60, etc. (These are fairly complex cameras, point taken). In my response, I do go on to say that the camera I have with me all the time is my iPhone. With the advances in phone cameras, I think more and more people are going to use their phone for a 'pocket camera,' while using a larger, more complex point and shoot when zoom is required, etc. The newer phones even have RAW shooting. When size matters, the answer might be the camera in your phone. For me another pocket camera would be redundant when my phone is handy all the time.

The cost of a good point and shoot are as expensive as a Nikon d3300. If you put the 3300 on Auto, you have a point and shoot.... Then you can also add lenses and go to manual and take time for adjustments......

I take a Panasonic zs60 with me everywhere during the day... fits in pocket and has 720mm zoom. Takes good shots in good light. Evenings out I take the Panasonic zs100. It has a 1" sensor and shoots great in low light.

Sony RX100ii. I had the first model, the Rx100i, until I jumped in a swimming pool with it. I found a used like new "ii" for about $450. I love the size and picture quality. It fits easily in your pocket. The newest models of the RX100 series are a bid pricey.
