Nikon P510

I've been enjoying the Hedgehog topics for a month soon after I bought a pre-owned Nikon P510. I hadn't had a camera for 50 years so this camera was unbelievably great for a "newbie". I have yet to see any reference to this camera on the HHG site. Is it because it is a simple point and shoot and such an elementary camera? Does any other member own one?

I have a P100 and a P510. I gave the P510 to my wife. She doesn't take photography too seriously, but she gets the camera bug, the P510 produces some assume "tack sharp" and award winning exposures. The P510 takes very nice close-up shots, plus long shots up to about 1000mm. Although I have a D7200 and many high priced professional class lenses, I still frequently use the P100 or P510 when I don't want to mess around with the big camera and all of the heavy lenses.

I really like the P510.

My Coolpix P510 is part of what I consider my travel triad, which also includes a Coolpix P810 and S8200. I like the camera very much having used it to shoot video at two nephew's High School graduations, and for the family photos after. The trio fits nicely into a small over the shoulder camera bag that easily slides under my seat when flying going with me to Seattle and Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic for family gatherings. It's definitely a great casual walk around camera that gives you decent reach and astonishingly good photos.

Thanks TJBNovember,
Your reply inspires me to try some video of my granddaughter's dancing.

I love shooting with my pro camera every chance I get, however I regularly bring my P520 with me as it has a farther reach with it's 42 times zoom and takes amazing shots at that range if you can handle the vr which i'm not to bad at. It's good for when you want to show you saw something just out of pro cam range. I have had it for 6yrs now and love the camera.

I have the P510. Love it but the focusing is very slow. I use it as a back up to my D90 and D7500 when fast focusing is not an issue. Takes great photos and have enlarged up to 13x19 with no issues. Have fun with it! Camera offers a lot so get a manual or go online to learn about all the nuances this camera offers.

Thanks for your comments. Knowing that you both have more sophisticated cameras and still use the P510 makes me feel confident in knowing my purchase was wise. I only paid $60.

I had the P150...loved it, later got the P600, loved it too, now have the P900...love it but it's heavy. It goes everywhere I go. Sometimes I let my 2 Sony guys go along, but no matter what, P900 is always with me.
