I was a Park Ranger --and designated park photographer-- at Arches N.P. from 1993 thru 1999. Subsequently, until the time I retired in 2012, I was a Park Ranger at Canyonlands N.P., or more accurately I was a backcountry trip planner for all four of the park's districts (Island in the Sky, The Needles, The Maze, and the River District), and worked out of SEUG (Southeast Utah Group, which includes Arches, Canyonlands, Natural Bridges and Hovenweep) Headquarters in Moab. I still live in Moab because why would I conceivably want to live anywhere else. I've assisted literally thousands of first-time and return park visitors with itineraries, so I may be able to assist you as well. You've received some good information so far, but you've also been given some inaccurate and potentially misleading info, too. I'll PM you with my phone number in a short while; feel free to call any evening.

The main reason for wanting to live anywhere else is that some of us like real beer at the end of the day, but it's rare beauty there especially from the cliffs at the summit of Porcupine Rim mountain bike trail and the drop down to the Colorado River.....WHOOOOOOA!!!

Hah! There's more to life than yer so-called 'real' beer, y'know. Its called 'bourbon.' Double Oaked Woodford Reserve, sil vooz plate monsoor. (Speaking of which, is there anybody out there in Kentucky??? Haven't had any Wellers 107 in seems like forever!) Tried the Poison Spider Trail yet?

Great advice! I’m always up in AM to get the sunrise shots, can’t go that far to sleep in! I’ll check out the book and I use the TPE app, so I’m set there. I’ll have to look at driving time from Devils Garden to Delicate to be good to go for arrival/hiking time- Brian

Sounds like Delicate Arch is THE popular spot. I’ll get there very early at least one morning for sure and see how it goes with the crowds!!

John, it would be a shame to go out there and not see and photograph Delicate Arch. I don't know the extent of your disability but if you can make it at all, you ought to try. Unless you have a life threatening problem, like heart disease, it's worth the try. You will know within the first few hundred yards if you can make it. I'm thinking it's a little over half a mile. If you could stop and take breaks every few minutes. I don't want you to endanger your life but you will never regret it. Leave early in the day and go before the dog days of summer or after them.

I’m heading to Arches and Canyonlands in Mid April, camping in Arches, for 5 days. I’ve read some photo shoot itineraries (one I really like from Ash at Dirt In My Shoes) and I’m looking for more folks insight on shooting from others as well. Thanks all for any input that you might have!
Brian

Early mornings and some really good walking shoes.

And, before you go, read Ed Abbey's book. You'll be driving up the road he pulled stakes for (about). If you are the only one with disability's in the group send one or two of the others to run down and up the hole in front of delicate arch; more fun if they are your children or you can do it with them.. try to get a look or a picture of Delicate so you can see how close to the edge it is. Also, look up at it from the parking rea and realize how lucky we are that wind and water got it exactly right---- for this millennium, at least.

I agree with all the suggestions and comment if you go and don't come back with great images then you had your eyes closed.
