Hi all, Just curious if anyone has successfully updated their CS5.1 to work with the D850 NEF files. I'm not sure if this is even possible but I prefer not having to convert to DNG. My Lightroom 6 (standalone) and ON1 2018 both work fine with the D850 NEF files.

You won't be able to. You will have to use another RAW converter to produce DNG files for Lightroom.
However, this begs the question: You have a $3300 camera body; is $10/month for Lightroom Classic CC that much of a financial burden?

That's not entirely accurate, rgrenaderphoto. For that $10 (ok, ten and change)/month, a person can get both Lightroom Classic CC AND Photoshop CC (including Camera Raw CC and Bridge CC), any or all of which have features well beyond the stand-alone earlier non-CC versions. Just sayin'....
Simply use LR6 to import your D850 NEF into the LR catalog and pass them to CS5.1, from LR, as DNG or TIF. The issue is using the old CS software to open the NEF directly. That's where there's no technical option that supports the NEF files directly.
You should look at your workflow. Do you use the three software independently (LR, ON1, CS)? Without getting into 'why', you'll have to realize they are no longer 'all equal' given one of the three cannot open files directly from a new camera.

Sorry, not possible, CS5 only has support for ACR 6.7!
