I used a Canon Pro 9000 for many years, producing excellent photos up to 13 x 19 for sales at juried art shows. The Pro 100 is the follow up to this printer and by all accounts an excellent option!!! Whenever I ordered ink from Canon I always received free photo paper. By the way, I now print on an Epson Surecolor 600.

I purchased a Canon Pro-100 a few years ago. It has 8 ink cartridges and makes beautiful color and black and white prints anywhere from wallets to 13x19. I'll admit, Canon
ink is a bit expensive, but worth the cost. I have also use LD ink cartridges and, truthfully, can not tell the difference. The printer will give you a list of what type of paper you are using,
whether it is glossy, matte, art, etc. Also have an older Canon iP-4500. 5 cartridges, but use the Pro-100 strictly for photos. BTW, you don't need to use Canon paper. It will take any make and give you beautiful prints. Good luck whatever you chose.

Hi All,
As I've grown older, much older, I've devolved from sports and aviation photography into just a serious and picky amateur and need a new photo printer.
In college, I had a minor in art (almost all photography) which of course was film and chemistry back then.

Over the years I've worn out a number of printers. Now it's time to get a new one. I want quality that won't break the bank purchasing ink. It will on occasion be used to print documents, but most of those are printed in my wife's office.

Unlike others, printer size is not a concern. Quality is #1, Availability of quality ink at a reasonable price and in useful quantities is #2, printing speed is #3, purchase price is #4. It can be wired, or wireless although there are so many wireless networks close by, they can at times cause a major slowdown, so wired might be preferable. (Most I've seen are both which is fine) I dream of a printer capable of printing 11 X 14, or larger, but those are beyond a pension and SS. It makes more sense to have a lab do those

Unlike many photographers, I want to know how everything in the chain works, be it mechanical, chemistry, or electronics. IOW, Camera to computer, to finished print.
Hi All, br As I've grown older, much older, I've d... (show quote)

Take a look at the Epson Ecotank printers.

The Canon Pro-100 is a great printer which I use for photos. Also own a Maxify Canon for everyday use. I've tried the Maxify for photos and it does OK but the Pro is much better. I can also say STAY away from 3rd party ink. Learned my lesson years ago when I was using a Kodak printer. The 3rd party ink junked up my printer so bad it was not usable and had to trash my 2 year old printer because of the cheap ink...Spend the extra on ink and you will not be sorry...

Welcome to printer land.. have a Canon Pro-100 ( for 13x19 ) cheap capital cost and can get 3rd party ink. Outstanding prints
A Canon G4200 with huge tanks.. have printed over 100 8.5 x 11 with half the ink left. Outstanding prints
And for the finale a Xerox 6027 color laser.. I did not expect photo quality color.. If the Canon's were a 10 pts the 6027 with large tanks is a 9.5
Amen, Steve411

Thanks to all that have replied so far. The Canons are on sale at B & H and as bad as I'd like the 1000, on sale it's still $1000 after the rebate. The 100 does look pretty good and can print the standard 11 X 14, or the slightly over size and comes with 50 sheets of the oversize paper. That I can justify. I'd have a problem even rationalizing the 1000.

The 100 plus printing costs are abt equal to what I paid for custom processing of 8 X 10s in batches of 15 or more back in the film days.

Re: 3rd party ink.. Maybe suggest who the supplier was for panel caution. My experience has been after over 250 Canon, Epson carts from 4inkjets.com, and LDProducts.com has been good. Not one defective cart.. so.... far.. and huge savings.. Steve411

I have to agree with the Canon Pro 100. I also have an older Canon Pro 9000 MkII. The 100 is better for B+W prints. The price is right with the free paper and rebate.

I recently purchased an Epson Artisan 1430. It is a 5 cartridge printer using Epson 79series ink. It has a wide carriage (13 in) and can print any size paper up to that width. So far it seems to sip ink slower than my old HP did. So far very happy with photo prints.
That's weird. My 1430 uses 6 cartridges.

Have the Canon Pro 100 for large prints, and a Canon G4200 large tanks using 3rd party ink from LD.. but got the wife a on sale Xerox 6027 color laser.. was shocked to see that the color photo printing was excellent. Has large tanks with inexpensive 3rd party full set ink about $40 bucks. The Laser prints do not smear with moisture. Good shopping. Steve411

Back in the film days 8 X 10s (15 or 20 at a time) cost me about $3.0 ea including retouching.

Thanks all! Fed-X delivered my new Canon 100 today. Now I need to find a place for it!

Canon 100? You must be a weight lifter.. Not a machine for the ladies to move, Steve411
