I disagree - knowing what the camera's setting were can give me a start for my next similar- either to do or not to do.

I had that camera and it was a little gem. Enjoy it. I think the technology and durability of image making equipment is important.
If you are very enthusiastic amateur shooter you will use you gear a lot and you want durability and performance without interruption.
If you are me who does some money work and some artistic images you have to make many tough decisions.
I selected an Sony XDCAM a few years ago to shoot high end footage considered pro. Found the PXW-X70 and it works beautifully.
I have Sony mirrorless cameras and they perform very well. And the pricing is pretty good. I might have liked a Canon video and
DSLR with their lens but that was out of my price range. Their are tripods for heavy use. Sachtler etc. So all decisions are
made I believe on price, performance and what you will use your gear for. Good luck.

Thanks! And all this time I have been stepping on the cable release with my big toe. No wonder why my photos are not selling. Many thanks for the tip :)

I also think aperture, shutter speed, and ISO are helpful but only if the final picture and that right out of the camera are the very similar, otherwise it does me no good.

I know what my camera is doing at all times.
(using "hunt and peck" typing method on a Dell keyboard).

The magazine is in the business of making money. Whether the person who took the photo rambled on about equipment for sure the editor would mention what equipment he used as verification to already in place advertisers and how they would mention their product to potential advertisers.

This editorial observation is not directed at any posts on this site, but rather most photography magazines. I have to laugh when I see the technical info about photographs in some magazines. Do I really have to know what model tripod, or Gimbal head was used to hold up the camera that was used to take a picture ? Or is that just pretentious bragging about the photographers expensive equipment ? I also have to wonder about ISO, aperture opening, and shutter speed info.I know you can prioritize or program settings but I'm guessing [of course] that a lot of photographers shooting birds or other unpredictable moving subjects shoot first and look up info later. So it's not like the photographer knew what the camera was shooting at when taking a picture. Like I said this is just my opinion and some might think I don't know what I'm talking about. By the way in addition to my more expensive camera which in keeping with my theme I won't mention I've taken some outstanding photos ,if I do say so myself with a $100 Canon ELF. I used my left hand to hold the camera and my right index finger to click the shutter. Not that you needed to know that technical information.

Hmmm, I wonder what kind of brushes Picasso used.

It really doesn't matter if the photographer knew what all the settings were when shooting the picture but it can be valuable to some to know what the settings were after the fact for a picture that turned out well or if it did not turn out well.

Of course they do, it’s a marketing plug and helps keep the cost of the the magazine down.

The technical settings are a guide on how to replicate the shot.

Trust me great wildlife shots don’t happen with random shutter/aperture settings.

A very long time ago, I was a fine art major. And I know that many I had worked with researched such things. Along with what kind of ingredients were used to create Rembrandt's blue paints and such. It matters. And in photography so does ISO, shutter speeds, lens focal length etc. Unless you're looking at the work you create through the fog of your own ego, it can always be better. That's art. A subject most people know nothing about.

Remember, you are referring to magazines. They derive their income, as do some Photographers, from advertising and sponsorship from various equipment vendors. The exposure info and emulsion info was informative to the reader. All the Equipment info provides GAS fodder and contributes to the notion that ONLY the premium equipment is capable of making photographs worthy of publication in "Over Pretentious Photography," a magazine for Advanced Enthusiasts (AKA more money than brains) and Distinguished Professionals.

I subscribed to a few over the years. I like You Tube better.

Today editing expertise is as important as the camera used. Ansel Adams made his name in the dark room. The possibilities of a RAW image cannot be overstated.
