Sending a new lens back... Works perfectly.

I recently purchased a new lens, a good one: the Sigma 85mm F1.4 DG Art.
I works perfectly, creates incredibly sharp captures BUT.... The damned thing weights a ton and a half. I am not exactly weak but I do not see myself carry this thing around as I am other lenses.
So it goes back, regretfully.
It bet an f/1.8 version would be a lot lighter.
I have a Sigma 24-105 f/4 Art and a Sigma 24-35 f/2 Art that weigh 31 & 33 ozs and they are a little heavy to carry all day. The Nikon 24-120 f/4 weighs only 25 ozs but I love the image the Sigma Art produces. I primarily use these for foreign travel so I pay a price for my preference. I use a sling strap which does ease the pain somewhat. I do admit to looking at 4/3 ads though.
This might not be the solution for everyone but before giving up on a great lens because it's too heavy you might want to look at your suspension system. I'm 72 and carry a Nikon D500 with a 200-500 lens (altogether just under 9lbs) on a Black Rapid Sport Breathe strap all day with no problem. This "across the chest" strap makes all the difference in the world.
And that, my friend, is why you should always buy from a source that gives you a 30 day satisfaction money back guarantee.
Dang should know what you're buying to start with. When I bought my Canon 24-105 F4L II I knew it was going to be big and bit heavy.
I am 66 years old and had this wonderful Sigma Art 85mm f1.4. I also tired of its weight, though loved its image quality and bokeh on my Sony A7RIII.
I finally traded it in and bought the more expensive, but lighter Sony G-Master 85mm f1.4. Others with Sony also have chosen the lighter still Sony G 85mm f1.8, or Sony Zeiss Batis 85mm f1.8. Cheers

Sorry, I am out of 20 years old...
I always get a kick out those pictures of guys fielding what looks like shoulder mounted field howitzer lenses.

Most 85mm 1.4 lenses are heavy. That's sort of taken for granted, yea, 105 1.4, 85 1.4, 50 1.4. I guess these lenses have ALWAYS weighed more than their 1.8 counter parts. It is interesting to point out also that the weights of all lenses are listed where you can see how much they weigh BEFORE you buy. Interesting that lens manufactures do this and they openly post the weights so folks can judge for themselves the relative weights.
What you might find helpful is, once I find the weight, I find a lens that weighs ALMOST the same, I then mount the lens and imagine me using that lens and how it feels (the weight) in my hands. I am then more educated as to the possible pitfalls of the weight of the lens and then can make a more comprehensive decision based on my real life observations.
I hope you find my helpful hints keep you from making photographic supplies lose money on free shipping. These photographic suppliers must then raise their prices to cover their lose and then everyone else ends up paying more because of the uneducated and miss informed.

I didn't say that young. For me a 50 year old is young after all I'm 84 which makes me 34 years older then her. People laugh when I say I could use a young chick around 50 but for me that is young after all I was 34 when she was just born. LOL....Rich
Thanks to people like you who return items for trivial reasons like this so that people like me can save a buck or two buying a refurbished item for less money. The original manufacturer can't resell an item that has already been owned as "new". So they usually have a team of techs check them out and rebox items like this and then sell them for 15% less than new with a shorter warranty. I have bought several Canon lenses this way and they come with the full 1 year warranty. I'm pretty involved at the Canon learning center so quite often they send me 10% off coupon codes for online purchases so I usually get the refurb at the refurb price minus another 10%. All in all a pretty good deal.
