I bought a used Tamron 70-300.It seems pristine except it lacks a tripod mount. So I checked to see if there is such a thing as a tripod ring mount that is adjustable so it will fit more than one size of tele lens. I couldn't find one so I sadly assume that I must seek a tripod ring mount that is specific to this particular Tamron lens. Bummers!
==>Before I start searching the stores for ring mounts specific to each of my tele lenses, am I correct in assuming that adjustable mounts do not exist?
..........................................
Addendum: I just returned from checking BH, Adorama, & several other stores. None of them had tripod ring mounts for my specific lenses. Good grief, what does one do in such a case... get someone to make mounts for me or what? Uh I suppose I could use the elastic cords used to secure surfboards, bikes, & such to my bumper. Or is there a better way to cobble a substitute for a ring mount?
P.S. lesson learned -- never again buy a long lens package that doesn't include a tripod mount.
I hate to state the obvious: Did you contact Tamron and ask if they have the mount?
I have used those same lenses for years without a tripod mount for the lens. The 70-300 is not that big or heavy. It has never damaged my camera mount or tripod by mounting on camera on pod. I have had the Tamron for years, and now the Canon 70-300. They just don't need it.

That took 30 seconds.
I just looked at that tripod collar. The listing says that it's for the Tamron 70-300mm but the photo shows the etching "Tripod Mount Ring for AF-S 80-200mm f/2.8D ED". That's a Nikon lens. Maybe the diameter is the same. It would have to be extremely close to the same diameter to fit properly. I don't know how precisely they're machined but the tolerances would probably have to be no greater than +/- .001 inch. I'm a mechanical engineer and machinist and work with this stuff all day.

A reviewer on that page says it fits the Nikon lens perfectly.

10Q 10Q 10Q!! I suspected as much but wasn't sure. You saved me some bux. Life is good.
I still hope someone offers a jury rig for mounting a tele to a tripod. I am a numbers & words guy-- NOT a McGiver, by any means -- BUT I think that a jury rug must exist.

It would have to be either a flexible strap that tightens around the lens or something like a steady rest that machinists use on lathes. A flexible strap would not be good because it wouldn't be rigid. The problem with a steady rest design is that there would be pressure exerted on small areas of the lens instead of being distributed around the lens.
This is a steady rest that is supporting the end of this tubing.

Am I correct in thinking that you normally shoot using a tripod? Handheld, you'd just hold the body with your right hand and the lens with your left hand.
Added: what kind of subjects do you plan to photograph with this lens?
What camera will you be using it on?

I almost always use a tripod, and shoot a lot of verticals, so much prefer a lens with a rotating tripod mount. Even my Nikon mount 50mm lens has one.

I am 87 & my hands are shakey. So I sometimes need a tripod ... for my camera, that is.

Are you saying that you need a tripod to keep on target?
Mounting camera on tripod and then supporting lens with your hand may be your best choice.

I would not touch lens or tripod while taking photo, as that will cause blur. The camera and lens will be fully supported on most tripods without a problem.

Depends on what shutter speed is being used. For a lens like that, I routinely use speeds like 1/1000, and I hand hold because no motion from me will even be noticed compared to what the animal is doing.

What 50mm lens are you talking about that has enough room on it that allows for a tripod mount? Or even needs it for that matter? Many weigh in at 3/4 lb, the heaviest at 2 lbs. Even the 2 pounders do not have tripod collars.
The Tamron 70-300 weighs 27 oz and can be used with the camera attached on a good ball head. Tamron would have added a collar if it was necessary (such as they do for the 40 oz 70-200). I have a similarly sized Sony 70-300 and it does not have a collar. Check out Canon and Nikon, they do not have a collar either.
