I think I might have posted this before, so sorry if asking for similar information/recommendations.
I am looking at purchasing a Retina 4K Display
3.0GHz Processor 1TB Storage IMac.
For $200 more I can get the 3.4 gz with the same 8mb of memory.
Or, pick the 3.0 processor and and get 16mb memory for the same price.
The other option I could add would be the fusion drive.
So if any of you are familiar with IMacs and the variables I would like some advice.
Obvsiously, this computer is for my photography work only. (Photoshop, LR, Luminar, etc.
Thanks

Get the 16 gigs of memory
Thanks. That’s what I thought. More memory instead of processor speed. I don’t do gaming type stuff.
Go for as much memory as you can stuff in the system. Of course, cost is always a consideration. The memory will serve you far better than a little speed.

Thank you.
When one is 76 years old, one often forgets things.
Get the Fusion Drive, it really speeds things up. compared to a normal hard drive.

16g memory is essential for reasonably fast PP, but you don't say what you use the machine for.

The 16GB of memory in non-negotiable. Over the years, I've found that getting a faster than standard processor will cost you a lot of money for a small amount of improvement.
One Important criteria I had when recently looking for a new Mac computer was the ability to add RAM later.
In looking at the iMac’s, I recall that only the ones with the 27”screen gave that ability. With other iMacs — as in the laptops — you could not later add RAM; what was in the one you bought was what you lived with.
For my uses — primarily photography — I want a minimum of 16gb, but expandable. Ended up purchasing one with 8gb. Then, immediately purchased and installed additional RAM to take it to 24gb. Pretty easy to do.
and I think it's even cheaper to do it that way.

Yes. And you should consider upgrading to the SSD drive. The fusion drive is a hybrid of a hard drive and flash drive. While faster than a standard hard drive, it still has the same potential (realistically actual) eventual failure of the hard drive. The SSD will give you not only longer life, but faster throughput when you are viewing and editing your files. 512 TB of storage is good as you can add external SSD drives to store your photos. In fact, the newer Thunderbolt connectors will be speedier than you can imagine. If you want to back up, without going crazy, you can purchase 2 SSD drives and keep them connected. Your set up should be saving to your primary external SSD and backing up to your 2nd SSD. Keep in mind that the iMac is the 'control center' and having this properly set up will make your editing and viewing experience much more fun.
Hope this helps.

Make sure you get the 27" iMac as the 21.5 does not allow user memory upgrades.
