Ditto on #1. To me, the horse took away from the story forming in my head of a home, abandon and forgotten. Left to Mother Nature to take care of,dispose of. The questions of why and wonderment of the stories it's walls hold in secret.

The blur effect around the horses feet adds to the distraction.

I like #1, however I do like the tall light weeds behind the rock in #2, and #3 included. Both #2 and #3 have a strong horizontal line at the bottom of the photo which looks like a poor addition, as compared to #1. I think part of the horse problem is the lack of contrast between the head and the barn. If you moved the horse into the foreground, and made him bigger, contrast between his head and the grasses improves and the directional line of his back moves the viewers eye to the right. Before you fully decide, try that. If you like that, then you can make the horse the focal point, by slightly blurring the barn, etc. #1 has the barn as the focal area, but I would add the light weeds right. If you like the horse included, try the above, making the horse the focal area, but give attention to contrast between the horse and the grasses, and slightly blur the rest
of the background, again indicating that the horse is the subject of interest.

I like #3 best. I would like to see it with less contrast and just a touch of sepia tone. That would help it to be more to the western period

The first one--I’m a fan of things the way they are and agree that the photo doesn’t need a horse to enhance it. I believe your last one would be better as a black and white, with maybe a slight tint of brown rather than the blue.

I like 2 the most.

If you want to put the horse in, move it down and to the right slightly. The horse is too big for where it's placed, but the biggest error is the lack of value change for the lower part of the horse's face and nose (lost in the dark background of the barn). Or, change the color on the lower face to white. The original photo as is would be preferable to the current addition of the horse.

For my taste and we are all different, I prefer No.1. The image with the horse makes it the center of interest and I am sure you want to make the old barn your center of interest or said otherwise it is the barn what you want to show to the viewer. A smaller image of the hose in the foreground to the left would have had more impact.
I prefer natural colors and I find them in your first shot.

Positioning the horse in a stronger position without the head merger will improve the pic.

I like #1, in #2 the horse it to large reduce the horse and place it by the fence on the left of the barn. Just a thought.

Obviously these are not the same image. #1 is different, #2 and #3 are the same.

The horse looks too big and is a distraction. The weed above the rock is also a distraction. The rock?, could go either way. The barn is the focal point. It is too small in #1, better In 2&3. The coloring of the barn is better in #2. If you want an old time shading, I'd lean more towards brown or red, the colors in the barn, not the colors of the mountains.

#1. The horse doesn't look right in the second one.

I prefer #1, the horse does not look like it belongs.
