Perhaps Canon cameras typically don't have a long enough lifespan to make it onto the used market... other than as "non-working, for parts" units.

MyCanon 7D is still in use after decade.. I use it commercially so it gets more than average usage. Don't know what you are talking about... Nikon is as good a camera as Canon... Both service well...

Canon outsells Nikon but Nikon is more innovative. More professional photographers use Canon because it is more reliable. I see many photographers in the photo pit. Those with top of the line cameras from Nikon have very few problems but the lesser models seem to have more glitches.
Canon appears to be consistently more reliable throughout their line. That is my general impression from discussions with other professionals.

Many companies hire photographers to cover sports events if they have Canon lenses...

You got that right!!!

Now if Canon would just make products that were as complicated and difficult to use as Nikon, we could have some entertaining Canon posts!!!

Come on Canon!! Get in the game!!!

I've been shooting with Nikon for 44 years and have never had one problem with cameras, lens or battery drives. They must be well built.

I prefer Canon over Nikon, not because its a better camera BUT, because the buttons and menu layouts are simpler and easier to access.... The difference between the cameras has more to do with the feel and ease of operation... Its a lot like the difference between a Mac and a PC....

Ford vs Chevy vs Dodge - Lexus vs Infiniti vs Acura - BMW vs Audi vs Mercedes--- I always had to walk uphill both ways because my dad drove a "------"

Nikon vs Canon vs Sony - I had to learn to use a tripod because my dad used a "-----" or --- (Kodak) ---- Sony is a 4 letter word...

I drive Fords, now, primarily because way back when, when I was young and money was tight, Ford financed me, when others wouldn't. Just never felt the need to change. It's a car. Not a lifestyle choice.
I think the quality in cars has increased now, to where, from that stand point alone, it doesn't matter. You can easily drive anyone of them now way beyond 200,000 miles. You get sick of it before you kill it.

Cameras are the same way. you bought one or the other, for what ever reason, and just stuck with it. And now (arguably of course) quality is not the primary issue...
When you have been using 1 brand, you have as large of an investment in lenses, or more, as camera bodies... so the cost to change is prohibitive...

Yep, Coke, Pepsi, R.C..... Windows,MacOS, Linux.

All of these work, All of these have their fans. I don't get "religious" over all of this, I use what I like. I shoot Pentax because my first "serious" camera was a Pentax, so I've accumulated 40 years worth of lenses, filters and other sundry stuff. I don't think I'm superior or inferior - No one else should either Nikon,Canon, Fujifilm, Olympus,Sony and Panasonic all have made (and make) good gear.

My advice to new shooters is to rent or borrow the gear you are considering and make a decision based on what is comfortable for them. A good photographer CAN make a great image with a 110 Kodak Instamatic, a bad one WILL make a lousy image with a Hasselblad H6D-400c MS.

Funny. I remember someone making the opposite observation about a year ago. Watching this section for a few years, I'd say the level of for-sale activity can be correlated with major camera releases where Nikon's D850 has generated a lot of upgrade and change-over activity.

I think you've got it!

Would prefer to have camera brand on heading of posting if relevant as only really interested in brand that I have. If we knew the camera brand ,Canon, Nikon etc, etc, we wouldn't have to open up all the irrelevant posts.

I don't take the snarky rationale seriously. All brands and models have good and bad points. Most UHH'ers would pass out to see how excited people on a vintage camera site I am also a member of get when finding a really "clean" 1920 Brownie camera!

I enjoy reading about all brands of cameras and about photography it self.

I watch this section for Canon items and see very little.... mostly Nikon. I guess Canon users are very satisfied with their equipment.

Satisfied or Stuck with their Canon equipment?

DSLR technology is struggling to increase performance. Canon camera technology is significantly behind Nikon with regards to dynamic range and high ISO performance. Canon also is behind on DSLR 4K video. Currently, Canon's mirrorless cameras are significantly behind the competition from Sony, Fujifilm, Olympus, and Panasonic. Most posts here about equipment are about equipment with advanced features or performance. That's why you don't see many posts about Canon here. If Canon releases a full frame mirrorless camera, and if it compares well against the competition (Sony), you will see more posts her regarding Canon.
