Learn you will but your relationship with your daughter might suffer if the shots are not up to the standards of her peers who go to the pro at the school's photographer. I started photography in 8th grade by the time my daughters were in high school I had been a working professional and yes I did my daughters senior portrait but it was with her OK and the fact that I had studio time due me from one of the studios I had been shooting for. That studio considered my work as a Master of Photography according to their business card they paid me to pass out. Go have fun with your daughter while you learn she may feel like a model while you take many pictures of her. At least go to the pro and see how they do it. Some studios are doing fantastic things in shots these days and some aren't. Without the studio and the many backgrounds you are just settling for the average joe with a camera shot. Remember that the yearbook also needs a specific file type you may not know how to create such as .png .jpg .psd .bmp and that list goes on and on. Some camera files from the past cannot be read properly without the right editing program.
Like I tell some people, "Who do you take your car to when it needs a large and costly repair the pro's or the backyard guy?". In photography you are the backyard guy.

With cars, home repairs, etc., some of us are the backyard guy as well. And to be honest, I frequently like my work better than that of the person I sometimes pay big bucks for.

I say give it a try and if it’s not up to what you and your daughter would like it to be, turn it over to the pro.

My relationship with my daughter will not suffer by doing this . It's her choice. We don't have the money that it cost to get them done professional. She lives how I do my own photos. I'm not looking to be a pro at all and family and friends wouldn't even look at shadowing and specifics in a photo as a pro would. Specially if they know nothing about that stuff. Lol my daughter wants me to do it to save us money and the school already had a photo of her for the year book. I never had senior pictures done of me for my senior year. She just don't care what picture they stick in for her as high school wasn't a good experience for either of my girls.

You really should use the quote reply so that your reply is directed at the person it is meant for otherwise they look like random statements. Don’t let the so called experts here get in your way. If she already has a pic for the year book then you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Go for it! Have fun!

That’s the spirit! Remember even the pros had to start somewhere! I see you’re from PA - me too. We tend to have that “grit your teeth and do it” mentality. Look where it got the Eagles! 🏉

FYI - I came across this - it’s specifically about posing your subject for a senior class photo.

I just ask for a lil help. But I've gotten talked down to for wanting to do this as I've mentioned I don't want too be a pro. The irony
