A New Twist on Ashlie

Ashlie was standing up with her head tilted to far to make an appealing picture. Tried to twist the picture to look as though she was leaning in with her hair blowing back. Because the crop is just a small part of the picture I chose to smooth her skin quite a bit to reducing noise and minor bit mapping. I see this smooth skin technique used in magazine ads and understand some people are not fond of it, looks to pasty got them. Please give me your opinions of the crop and the PP skin work.

The square crop suits the diagonal-oriented composition. I don't have a problem with the skin. You've kept the light and dark variations and the colour variations and even some of the texture, so you've avoided the pasty look.

It’s an odd pose but not unattractive - she looks to be craning to look at something. Worth salvaging in this way I think. I quite like the skin effect apart from the shadows - they have suffered a bit from the noise reduction/heavy crop and will probably be a bit of a challenge to improve. Worth a try though - they need to soften/lighten at their edges a little.

Thanks Magnetoman. Yes, the pose and crop are not your norm. This was a through away that I believe now is worth saving. I will look into the shadows. Happy you stopped by and took time to comment.

I believe this to still be a throw (not through) away as there are no eyes for any life. If the eyes had something then yes spend the time on it. Just my 2¢ worth.

It does look like an ad and I really like it. Love the skin and hair . Maybe lighten the eyes a bit.

Thank you Toby. As I tried to lighten the eyes they kept turning grey and washed out so I left them like this. She came to the shoot with very dark eye make up.

Well it's not that big of a deal. Photo is excellent even with dark eyes.

Agreed. Interesting pose but you can't see her eyes which takes away the human to human connection. I knew something about it bothered me and it became clear to me when I zoomed in and noticed I could see part of her left eye thru the heavy lashes.

very nice lighting. I think I would like it a little more if she had tilted her chin toward you and looked at you.
