Hi,

Keep in mind that if you are using the cloud version of Lightroom (or anything else), your internet connection will have a big effect on your speed. Good luck!

Because of Adobe's method of using insane version names, I assume you are talking about Lightroom CC which used to be called Lightroom Mobile. If you use Lightroom Classic, the only time an internet connection comes into play is to verify that your monthly subscription fee has been paid (not internet intensive), or when you update your programs (sometimes the updates are several gigs).

I think you understand that, but I just wanted to be specific.

“Novice” here😉. Thank you all for your input. I feel like I’m prepared to go forth in the marketplace now. I have a lot to learn, I know. This forum has been really helpful, even if a bit too snarky for my tastes sometimes.

Yup, snarky is one way to put it. Some are just rude. You need thick skin to belong here. LOL

It's true - there are always those who want to criticize and comment inappropriately. They probably have issues in their own lives and relationships, so they vent their frustrations on others. We have all been just starting out, and even those with lots of experience have questions, which means that there are more here who are happy to help others than there are of the "other kind". Just ignore them.

After much research and comparison I bought an Acer Aspire E 15 from Amazon for $550 and added ram to 16 and hard drive to
1TB for $100 more. This unit already has a 256 SSD and a good video card and it is lighting fast. I installed the upgrades myself
with assistance from a you tube tutorial. I have used this laptop for nearly a year now and I am very happy with it.

I have been using a Dell Inspiron 1500 for the past 3 years. I use it mainly for Lightroom. We travel quite a bit and I enjoy working on my photos along the way....thus no desktop. I hate it! It is so slow with LIghtroom, slow to reboot, needs frequent maintenance (“new drivers”). I have worked with Dell support too many times to count. So, with this said, where would the UH community suggest I go next in the PC world. At this point I don’t want to switch to Apple due to price.

You get what you pay for. Apple is worth the price.

I respect your opinion, however:
1. She clearly indicated she does not want to purchase Apple.
2. Windows laptops and desktops, configured for photography processing, are superior to Apple computers.
I've played with Apple at their stores and I also help some in my complex with their Apple products. I'll stay with my Windows computers. Not even an inkling of desire to change.
My opinion.

Not knowing your budget, I would suggest a Dell XPS 13 or 15 inch (depending on budget). Get it through the Dell Outlet and check the "Coupons" tab for current bargains (right now there is an additional 15% on XPS laptops using code cXPSlt15). You can get a 13" with a 512 SSD 16G RAM and great touch screen under $1,200 (before the coupon)

The 15" are around $300 more.

I have the 13" and pair it with a 1T external HD.

You do get what you pay for, but when you buy Apple you are paying for a label. And you do get that label.

I chose to get the most machine for the money instead.

Exactly! I haven't had an apple machine since the mid 80's with a II GS and my company went with MS Windows computers. I couldn't be happier with my Windows machine and it will do everything I want it to do without the exorbitant price tag of a Mac. I have to chuckle when an apple sycophant makes the statement; 'buy a Mac, you will never go back'. Funny? U Betcha!

That is the problem, you "...played with Apple at their stores...." You have never used both PC and Apple computers configured for photography on a day to day basis. Only then can you give an unbiased recommendation. I have used both and I will not go back to PCs.

Neither the PCs nor the Macs are the same systems they were in the mid 80's. A lot has changed.

And you know what? I could care less, and don't need, nor want an apple sycophant telling me what to use.
