Pretty neat stuff. This is a rather large specimen and would definately make for many images that could be made into art. Clearity is good and size of the insect will help with versitility. If they are docile, as this one appears to be, I would try some different backgrounds, such as natural, excluding visible human intervention. Good work as I see it. I don't have any grasshopper images, but I'm not a stranger to photographing insects. As a matter of fact ,my images of insects can be quite strange.

If I am lucky enough to catch him again, hes going into an old aquarium and I will be doing some serious stage management and he will be in some "wild environmental Pics"

Thanks for the comments

I love the photos of the Grasshopper. He looks like he is wearing a coat of armor...but I think you should have named him "Joseph" but that is OK. "Jacob" would have liked this too...He liked nice bright colors too, I'm sure.

Thank you sweetheart, Its nice when some one KNOWS the bible and does not just spout out what they somewhere in their brain seem to remember. God Bless you love!

Wow, what a pleasant surprise and the colors are amazing. I've not seen a grasshopper like that.

How do you take a pic like that, do you use a remote or a timer?

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the grear comment.
I used all manual settings on the camera including manual focus. As I do not have thr luxuary of a macro lens, I set the zoom at maximum (75mm) and the focus as close as possible, the move the camera back and forward till the grasshopper was sharp on the screen, then Click. Some camera movement is inevitable as I was holding the grasshopper in one hand and moving ad exposong with the other. About 90% of the pics were sharp enough to use but not sharp enough for the critcal enthusiast!

Thanks for the comment, I will whisper your message in his ear if I can catch him again for a third session!

As a kid said when his mother asked him why he was smiling. I just pissed in a dogs ear. His mother said "You did What?' Kid said Yep I got him by his neck and went 'Psssst" in his ear! hah

Just goes to shows you what kind of help you can get from a subject you become friends with! Well done.

That's exactly what happened to me with Tilde531. We chatted , helped each other over photos and Voila and we fell in love.

You hit the nail on the head!

Now I have a very beautiful, great photographer as a very involved mentor as well.

Ian

Watch out next week when she starts producing real genuine Macro photographs!

Thanks for the advice. We have to build, maybe a log cabin with a basement. not sure yet, but we are looking for a small barn or warehouse to use for a studio!

Maybe an autumn photo shoot. Theresa has a knack for fall colors.

These are for the non-macro people who will not be so critical of the results.

Last week I shot some Grasshopper / locust pics which wer at the time pleasing to me as a non close up type photographer.

Well being persistant I chased up another victim and here are the results of his portrait session, still not as sharp as I would really like but I was pleased with them.

There are a lot of them so scan through the quick. The things that facinated me are the "Necklace the beast has and the tiny suction pads on his feet. I f you want to improve on them with PP which I dont have, feel free. All I can do is lighten or darken and increase the contrast a little.

If your there William, they might make good conversions to some of your highly colorful make overs.

These are not pinsharp as they were taken with an ancient (6 year old Canon Rebel) with the kit 75mm zoom (non Macro) at the closest focussing distance.

Next time I WILL get the sharp if I have to put the subject to sleep!

Ian

Ian, as far as I am concerned these are great set of a very colorful Grasshopper. They appear to be sharp limited only by the DOF.
