The D500 wasn't included in the original group, but Nikon just released an update for it today.

What's a firmware update? I've never done one. How does one do it? I have a D7100.

It is an update to the software in your camera. There have been a few since the D7100 was released.

Nikon just posted a distortion control update for the D7500, but no new firmware for it.

I see the D500 was not on your list of cameras with firmware upgrade. It’s been a while since that cameras firmware was upgraded.

The firmware for the D500 was also upgraded, but in s separate release. Have not yet read the release notes, but plan to update later today. Best of luck.

It is the last item in the setup (wrench) menu.

lol wrong side :)

Nikon updates their bodies but it is up to Sigma to update their lenses.

Nikons new AF drive has introduced a new protocol to the lens / body interface.

This may require updated firmware on third party lenses such as sigmas

You are right, but now we play the waiting game. I will have to take out my Sigma 150-600mm Sport lens and try it out on my cameras to see what effect this update had. Also worth mentioning is what can be done about other third party lenses that I have like Sigma 180mm macro, Sigma 150mm macro and Tamron 180mm macro that are not update-able through the hub. I guess that is the chance you take in buying 3rd party lenses. My Zeiss Milvas 85mm f1.4 is manual focus so I am hoping the rest of its electronics were not affected.

What does "C" and "L" stand for in the firmware settings?

Installed both updates on my D7200. Now an old Sigma 18-200 that did not work properly when using the flash is working fine.

Nikon just released firmware updates for nine different DSLR cameras. This was first on the Nikon Rumors website where they announced firmware updates for the D4, D4s, Df, D800, D800E, D810, D810A, D7100 and D7200 cameras. Most of the changes are for adding AF-P lens support to these cameras which Nikon had previously said were incompatible with the new AF-P 70-300mm lens.

At first it seemed to be great news, but in reading some of the comments posted by others in the comments section, it seems that this new Nikon firmware update is creating issues with third party lenses. A number of people that have Sigma 35mm f1.4 ART and 50mm f1.4 ART lenses have reported that after downloading the new firmware, their Sigma lenses did not autofocus properly anymore.

Just something to be aware of if anyone plans on updating their cameras with the new firmware so they can use the Nikon AF-P lenses and also has Sigma lenses.

Nikon produces their lenses to work with future firmware updates. Third party lenses are not so designed. Disadvantage, third party glass.
