FedEx Shipping Issues

I had a similar issue with FedEx just last week. I had ordered 2 large wheeled storage totes for my telescope. The tracking info said it was delivered to my house ... HA.
I called in to fedex to try to sort it out and they told me to call the shipper (... sighs ... "Wally-World") to start the claim process. Walmart was VERY helpful and is sending new ones-hopefully not via fedex. About 8 hours later a lady on the NEXT BLOCK brought me the package herself. My address is 2222 and hers is 2200 ... ON THE NEXT BLOCK-DIFFERENT STREET! Oh, BTW the shipping label had my CORRECT address on it so it's not MY fault. The box was badly damaged and the totes were severely broken. Has fedex ever told anyone else to contact the shipper to rectify an obvious fedex problem?

I purchased an 85 f/1.8 lens from KEH late last week; it was set to be delivered by FedEx on Saturday but never was due to the dreaded "customer wasn't home or business was closed" message. Mind you, I WAS home and I never saw any FedEx vehicle drive by on my street. I called FedEx up and talked to a CSR explaining my issue. I filed a complaint and was expected to receive my delivery on Tuesday (today).

Fast forward to today. Following my package via FedEx's tracking page, I see that it was on its way. As it became later and later in the day, I wondered what was happening because once again, I saw no FedEx vehicles on my street at any time. Well, I checked the tracking page...and lo and behold, it wasn't being delivered to Address A where I was, but to Address B where I have a PO box 10 miles west of there. Let's just say that I wasn't happy.

I called FedEx again to complain and to ask why was my package not delivered to Address A like I requested; the CSR took my phone number and would have someone call me back to explain what happened (yeah, right) and I said that it had better be a driver supervisor. Furthermore, I sent an email to KEH's sales department telling them about the situation and to see what they say or what they can do to mitigate the problem. It's not the fault of KEH, but I wanted to let them know what was happening with my order.

I have noticed that it seems like most camera vendors seem to be using FedEx for shipping instead of USPS like I would like to use preferrably because I have a PO Box for a reason. Any thoughts from anyone concerning FedEx, or want to share their own experiences?

I get the feeling these issues vary from place to place and shipper to shipper. I live in the Suburbs near Los Angeles. We typically get fast shipping. I actually prefer the USPS because the seem to be more accurate by using the ZIP+4. Seems others do not use the +4 numbers that are as small as a portion of a street to a single apartment building. Also the USPS does not seem to intentionally hold stuff to match the paid for service. I gotten items sent Parcel Rate and they arrive in the same two days as Priority Rate. Not always though. I have not had any trouble with FedEx or DHL so far. But I always get worried then I know something was sent UPS. They don't use the +4 so often they miss-deliver my package to another street in my neighborhood with the same house number as mine. And then they often argue that they did not. Sometimes they'll search the surrounding blocks for it and find it or not. Other times an honest person I don't know will bring it by. Another annoying thing about UPS is they stick to their initial paid for service delivery schedule. In this case meaning if the item gets to the L.A., CA area ahead of schedule and it usually does they just seem to hold it at the airport, or UPS truck distribution center until the day they told the sender it would be delivered. I live near their main hub in Ontario, California and stuff just sits according to their own tracking. I think they do not want to seem overly efficient or people will pay for cheaper services if they think they will get the same service as a more expensive service. Like I said I get physically fast service in and out of the area because there is so much commerce here. The USPS does not mess around, they want it out and gone and delivered what ever you paid. If the item moves slow it will be their usual estimate, if fast like I usually get it gets hear fast and ahead of estimates. I also live relatively close to a number of Amazon warehouses. Those (if shipped from my area) items are usually really quick getting to me. Amazon now even has their own delivery trucks for such local delivery and they'll deliver in two days on Sundays!

I never had any issues with FedEx, but plenty with UPS and especially with USPS (they totally suck)!

To me, it doesn't seem like FedEx is at fault for failing to deliver to your door. Rather, it appears either KEH is to blame (not shipping to correct address), or it is your fault for not properly entering the shipping information on the KEH website. As KEH most likely uses an automated shipping label print out cued directly from website input, it is very possible the shipping mishap is the result of a mistake by you.

I prefer not to use Fedex unless its overnight or priority. Fedex ground uses contract drivers who do not work for Fedex. Last Christmas I tracked a ground shipment for 3 days - on truck out for delivery. The driver quit at 5 PM each day; finally delivered the 3rd day.
UPS drivers deliver until truck is empty.
I use a personal mail box service to receive packages where someone can sign.

That isn't what he said. What he said was it won't be delivered to a PO Box.

Recently ordered a piece of equipment to be sent Fedex, the day it was on truck to be delivered package never showed up, we stayed home all day to sign for it. I checked on computer and tracking said package not delivered because of inclement weather conditions. We had no bad weather at all, so I called and explained that and they were not pleased the driver wrote that down, the next day a Sat the package was delivered. I guess I'll never know the real reason of the late delivery.

You would know better than we do but is it at all possible that the weather was bad somewhere along the way?

Very interesting. Two days ago, I placed an order with B&H. The email sent to me by B&H indicates that the package is being shipped via FedEx and the FedEx tracking shows the package is on the truck for delivery today. The FexEx “Shipping Information” section of the tracking details indicates “Direct Signature Required”. In the past, B&H has shipped my orders via UPS, or USPS (for small, fairly inexpensive items). Can’t wait to see if the FedEx delivery person actually rings the bell and asks for a signature. The total order is for around $850. Should be interesting to see what happens. My husband and I are both home all day today.

Interesting info about FedEx drivers being contract workers. I did not know that, and it explains some of the difficulties I have had in the past with items being shipped via FedEx rather than UPS or USPS. I’m expecting a FedEx delivery today - 2 packages expected according to yheir tracking info.

I have had expensive equipment delivered that required a signature but it was left on my step without even a knock on the door. When I checked the tracking log it stated “customer signed”. Luckily the two times it happened, I was at home and knew to check the step throughout the day.

You cannot even get through their shopping cart with another address, even a UPS Store, and complete an order. Has to do with expensive equipment going missing in transit. Oh, and a signature is absolutely required, even for my UPS Driver, who is the most accommodating sort.

RE: FedEx or UPS. To ship to PO box, use the Post Office street address and list the PO box as a suite. Example... John Smithh, 123 Central Ave. Ste 930, Sometown, CA 12345.

FedEx will deliver to my PO and if the package is too large for the box, the postal workers leave a yellow tag in the box for pickup at the counter.

UPS will only drop off packages at the Post Office if the shipper specifies “surepost”. Otherwise, UPS generally won't deliver to the PO. Good luck trying to get the shipping crew or the retailer to understand this. Instead of delivering to the Post Office, UPS sends me a postcard telling me that my 'package' is at the main terminal... 12 miles away.

It would also be helpful if online retailers would specify their preferred shipper so the appropriate shipping address could be applied for a given shipper. End of rant!

Cheers!
