Has anyone noticed a battery draw with a Tamron lens attached to their camera?
I have a couple a Tamron Lenses... the only one giving me problems is the 24-70mm f2.8. When I leave it on my camera my battery will be down 1/3 or more and if left 2 days it will be dead... and I haven’t had a problem until I attached it to my new camera... it was fine on my other camera.

Never heard of such a thing. All circuits between lens and camera are dead when you turn your camera off.
You are turning your camera off, right?
Are you leaving your camera ON to observe the battery drain, because I've seen nothing like that with my 2 Tamron lenses.
On a review of the D500, Steve Perry talks about one instance where he noticed battery drain with the camera, even when it was turned off. He said that after turning off Wi-fi and Bluetooth didn't do the trick, turning on Airplane Mode within the camera settings stopped it and no more battery drain. My guess is, Airplane Mode turns off all Wi-fi, Bluetooth and other battery draining processes on the camera. Just a thought. (If it works for you, it's not the lens - it's the camera.)

Nope. Never experienced it. Not certain how a lens attached to the camera when off could drain a battery. But I'm no engineer.

Are you turning your stabilization off prior to shutting down the camera? I can't imagine leaving it on would cause battery drain, but it's a good idea to do this in any case. LensRentals wrote a white paper a while back advising the stabilization be shut off to avoid damage to undocked floating elements within the lens.

maybe this is true. maybe not, but I never turn stabilization off unless on a tri pod and I have never had a problem. maybe I'm just lucky.

I'm with you and do not believe it is a matter of luck.

I have 4 Nikon mount Tamron lenses and never noticed a battery drain problem.

There was reported issue with the Tamron 24-70 which I recall from sometime back. Which camera are you using it on?. I did a little research and if you Google
"Tamron 24-70 battery drain", you'll see a bunch of hits. I don't know if it was resolved, but I vaguely remember it may have required a firmware upgrade.
Here's a similar problem with a different Tamron lens, the Tamron SP 90 on a Canon 5D Mark IV. As per the link below it required a firmware upgrade for the lens.
It states,
"When used in combination with the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV, behavior where power consumption was high with the lens mounted and where the camera’s battery charge would continue to drain even when the camera was switched off and stowed with the lenses mounted has been improved. "It seems to be camera specific, That's why I asked you what camera you were using your 24-70 on. I would contact Tamron with the model and serial number of your lens and the model of the camera on which you're having a problem to determine if this is firmware related and if a firmware update is available.

Apparently that's not entirely accurate as per Tamron. See my post just above this.
The only time I had a problem with battery drain (and I use Tamron lenses) was when I used a 3rd party battery grip. (Using) The battery grip would drain the freshly charged batteries. The problem went away when I took the battery grip off. Are you using a battery grip?
I shoot both the Tamron SP 24-70mm f2.8 VC USM, and the Tamron SP 150-600mm original version. I leave the SP 150-600mm VC lens mounted to my 5D Mark IV all the time, ready for bird shots in the backyard. The 24-70 is my walk around lens when street shooting. I've never had the problem you described.
I would leave your lenses off the camera with fully charged battery, and check the battery charge every 4 hours to see if it discharges without the lenses. Or, your battery may be giving out, try a new battery (3rd party is fine). Maybe fully charge the battery and let it sit outside the camera for a day, and then see the charge level. If the battery does discharge 10% or so, the problem may be the battery.

Yes, everything is turned off.
Bill, I have the same camera and I had the 24-70mm on mine as a walk around too. I’ve tried different batteries and taken my new camera into Canon to be checked out ... 3 times actually... and every time they find nothing. Someone there mentioned the lens and my thought was how can that be... they gave me a new camera and new battery and it happened again. I put on a Canon lens 24-105mm and I haven’t had a problem... should I send it in to Tamron or call them??
