Definitely. Had reports of them in my neighborhood during the flooding.
There are lots in the park where I took this shot.

Nice photos--the one of the pier is my pick of the offerings. Good job.

There sure are back when we lived in Tomball hurricane Alicia hit and there were 2 of them in my
garden after wards always wondered why I only had the heads of the catfish on the lines strung across the creek overnight. The gators didn't bother me but those fire ants sure did the bites were painful was out in yard and did not realize until to late that my right leg was covered with them spent 2 days in the hospital.

Definately, and surprisingly common. Brazos Bend is an excellent place to get "up close and personal" with them, but many rivers south of the Houston area are thick with them, notably the San Antonio and Aransas rivers. Very common at the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge.

Yep, this one was on the grass between the water and the trail that goes from the 40 acre parking lot to the tower.
Here is a not very good shot of the 15 footer that was about 20 feet from the smaller one.

The head was easly two feet long.
