Well, I seem to have done something and I can't figure out how to solve the problem. The D7200 has a red focus box just off center and autofocus has stopped working. I also can't Reset the photo shooting menu. I get a message that "This option is not available at current settings or in the camera's current state." HELP please!

UPDATE: It looks like there is a problem with either the camera or the lens. The AF Mode button is not working. I push it and nothing happens. I've checked that the camera and lens are set on AF, the Lock is off, I've reset the Shooting mode and done a two-button reset. I've also reseated the lens. I'm out of ideas/options. This is a used camera I bought from Adorama, so I think I've got a 90-day warranty. Before I call them, can anyone think of something I've missed?

FORGIVE THE RING: Problem solved. I wish I could tell you how I did it. I tried everything except putting the camera in the washing machine and somehow I solved the problem. Whew!

You did it by threatening it with the washing machine. You scared it into good behavior.😅😂🤣

That "Option not available" should never appear. Unless there is a direct conflict, all options should be available all the time. In many cases, the shooting mode limits the adjustments you can make. Switching to A, S, or P will often give you more options.

I know how frustrating it can be when a problem is solved, but you don't know it was solved.

Sadly, your right. The AF is caput again, so I’m going to return it. I’m looking again at the D7500, but I think a new... not a refurbished camera is the best bet. Whatever’s wrong, it’s intermittent, which makes the problem that much worse.

You can always reset Nikons to factory default from the menus.

Thanks for the input. Been there, done that. The camera is defective. Adorama is swapping it out.

After everyone weighs in and the camera still does not work CALL ADORAMA. Give them the whole story and tell them you are not happy with the purchase. They should take care of you.

Yes, I agree, BUT, I would miss about 60% of the shots I get from Digital Auto Focus Lenses.

Take it from someone who has worked around computers since 1959 (IBM 650), it was a demon. They have evolved and migrated to all the devices with computer chips. Long live FORTRAN and COBOL.

Not really. I never really left them. My Nikon F never has the problem described by the OP, neither does my Hasselblad 500c or my Graphic View II.
